...and long may it stay that way, from the warmth of the welcome you get from Diana who runs these lovely villas, to Olympia who keeps them spotless, the guy who tends the gardens and pool and all the local restaurants and shops with the same lovely people who work in them!
Fantastic stay in Villa Mimosa, second time we have stayed here. The villa is well appointed, everything you need for a comfortable stay - the aircon in the bedrooms was very welcome. The pool is perfect, and never crowded, enough sun beds and umbrellas for all. Diana is the perfect hostess, ready to answer questions and offer sight seeing tips but not intrusive. This is a very special place and we hope to return.
Villa Mimosa was an ideal setting for my wife, grown up son and myself. It is situated in rural Zakynthos, 250 meters from the islands north coast, 5 minutes drive away from the resort of Tsilivi to the east and 10 minutes travel from Alikanas/Alykes to the west. Given it's location a car is highly desirable, but a well stocked local supermarket, a bakery, and a couple of excellent tavernas are only a few minutes walk away.
The villa itself is detached, and one of four units sharing a private pool, in nicely maintained grounds. It was spacious with both a double and a twin bedroom, an upstairs and downstairs bathroom, a comfortable lounge area, leading through to a very well equipped kitchen.
Booking was simple, and Diana responded promptly by email, then followed this up with a lovely letter giving directions to her property. On arrival she was there to greet us personally with a very friendly welcome, and all the necessary advice about the property and local amenities.
Diana lives a short distance away in the local village and also runs a restaurant with her husband in Tsilivi, so is not resident on the property. She did however call in daily just to check there were no problems, and we were left with an emergency contact number in case it was needed. During the daytime Olympia, (the lady who services the accommodation to a very high standard each day) was on site and acted as a point of contact for the couple of teething troubles we encountered (we were the first guests of the year) and these were resolved efficiently and to our full satisfaction.
These arrangements leave you with nothing to worry about, and combined with the facilities and high standard of accommodation we were able to relax in to our holiday immediately to ensure that we made full benefit of this beautiful base to explore a very wonderful island.
If, like us, you like to avoid the resorts and seek a little peace and serenity to recharge your batteries, we can't recommend this property highly enough. As a matter of course we like to explore, so never go back to places we have previously visited, but we are certain that in years to come we will make an exception with Villa Mimosa.
....for the second time in Villa Mimosa. It's nicely tucked away and has a fantastic shady terrace, perfect to start the day with breakfast, retire from the mid-day sun or enjoy dinner if you decide to stay in. There is also a fantastic sun terrace upstairs, great for après-sun/pre-dinner aperitifs once the heat of the day is subsiding.
Everything works, everything is clean and well maintained, there's enough room, the gardens are a delight. Olympia who looks after the villas, the guys who come in to do the pool and garden and towels all keep it that way and they all do it with a smile.
Kypseli is handily placed on Zante and Olive Tree Villas are handily placed in Kypseli. A car is useful, but keeping local is perfectly doable, the crossroads taverna is good (for takeaway too), there is a great basic fish restaurant right on the beach as well as a slightly more sophisticated restaurant set back from the beach which has it's own garden and sun loungers. The supermarket has all you need, the butcher and bakery are great for local produce.
Diana is a brilliant, caring host and the Olive Tree restaurant she runs with husband Lakis a few miles away in Tsilivi serves food which is out of this world! A boat trip with Captain Spiros to the blue caves, shipwreck or turtle beach is also well worth it and he is a big part of the attraction.
Our enthusiasm for Zakynthos, Kypseli and the Olive Tree Villas is undimmed, the most difficult decision is whether to try Villa Jasmine next time we go.
We were lucky enough to have a week at The Olive Tree villas in August 2010. The weather was glorious and the villa, absolutely lovely. It was spotlessly clean, spacious and laden with all the necessary items for a family. Diana and Lakis are the most gracious hosts, nothing is too much trouble, from helping at the airport to booking trips and hire cars. The daily unobtrusive maid service with fresh linen and towels was a real treat. Everything ran very smoothly.
We all enjoyed the lovely pool area, with plenty of sunbeds and parasols and all again spotlessly clean. There are many handy stores nearby, including a supermarket, a bakery and a butchers. Also many lovely rural tavernas, especially Ruli's on the nearby beach.
Although Zakynthos has a bit of a "party" reputation, with UK teenagers flocking to places like Laganas, Kypseli is a haven of tranquility. If you fancy some other tavernas and some shopping and nightlife, Tsivili is only 15 minutes away. Tsivili is where the best taverna in the area, (and possibly the whole Island) is to be found. It is the lovely Olive Tree , owned also by Diana and Lakis. Really delicious home cooked food and super service.
We enjoyed some fabulous boat trips with Spiros (Diana's friend) to the Shipwreck and the blue caves. We hired a car and as Zakynthos is relatively small, we were able to explore much of the island, including the stunning scenery around the Keri cave area, (view from the Lighthouse restaurant - housing the largest Greek flag in the world) is absolutely breathtaking.
All in all a wonderful break, for adults, teenagers and young children alike. Wish we could have stayed longer but we will definitely return.
We stayed in Mimosa for latter half of August and had friends in Oleander and Hibiscus. The photos on the webiste do not do the villas justice, they are maintained to a very high standard and in our opinion 5* accommodation. Diana greets you on arrival and is around daily should you have any questions during your stay; she has a great local knowledge and it would be a shame to not make full use of this - we had boat trips, beaches and restaurants recommended to us, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The villas and grounds are immaculate; the villas are cleaned and towels replaced daily and the pool is maintained each evening. Diana's team at Olive Tree Villas are, professional, very discreet and nothing is too much trouble. The villas are located away from the hustle bustle of Tsilivi and yet conveniently enough located to be within easy walking distance of numerous restaurants, a supermarket, butchers, bakery and Kypseli beach. Tsilivi is but a 5minute drive away and the airport and Zakynthos town about 20minutes.
We spent half our time around the pool and the rest at the Tsilivi water park (our party ranged in age from 1yr to 40yrs and there was something for everyone), at St Nicholas beach, Plaka beach, and also twice aboard Captain Spiros's boat, The Levante; one trip to the north of the island, visiting Smuggler's Cove and the Blue Caves, another to the south, visiting Turtle Island and seeing the turtles swimming in the sea. Both trips are recommended. Amazing.
There is plenty of good local restaurants to dine at: Olive Tree Taverna in Tsilivi (Diana and Lakis restaurant), for great Greek cuisine and a fantastic atmosphere; King Prawn, which is a seafood restaurant and a bit pricey but in our opinion well worth the money (try the seafood platter for 2!); Also, consider The Crossroads, which is a 2mins walk from the villas, is very cheap, and does a great take away; Ruli's, a fish restaurant 10mins walk from the villas where you pick out the fish you want and tell them how you want it cooked; The Olde Vineyard, in nearby Tragaki, which is a traditional Greek taverna, and has a lovely ambience. Not forgetting the BBQ at the villas, of course, which are great for making use of fresh meat from the local butchers.
If you do decide to visit Zante, we would recommend the Olive Tree Villas without hesitation. In fact we have already booked to go next year!
