We had the pleasure of staying here for a long
weekend in late June 2007 and it was a terrific
experience. The house is well kept, private and very
cozy. Being an older home it features wooden
beams and floors that welcome you like an old
friend. The location is marvellous too... up a road
from the main street in town. The rooms are bright
and clean. We indulged in the jetted spa one
evening...how wonderful! Karen and her beautiful
family could not have been more helpful and
accommodating. They provided us with directions,
maps and tips. They even stocked our fridge with a
few items that I requested beforehand! Truly it was
beautiful experience, one that we will repeat in the
near future. The area is gorgeous. We just loved
that small town feeling and those picturesque little
stores. It seems like time stands still while you're
here. Thank you for some wonderful memories!
I can see how the house is ideal for quite a range of situations. It certainly was for ours - annual gathering of immediate family of parents, three adult children, one with spouse, one with dog, age range 28-41. Wonderful space with the bedrooms large enough to provide a private space when necessary, the living room and dinning room large enough to both provide a comfortable gathering space. Since this is the one time per year that we are all in the same place at the same time, each of these elements are important. We're all modern professionals and true down time can be hard to come by. The house provided the perfect environment for recharging and simply enjoying each others company.
We are outdoorsy and active, but not winter sports fans. Having a short stroll into town was great and up the hill is Sunset Rock which provided a good woods hike in the snow.
For us, the greatest reason to make arrangements like this is access to a full kitchen. We are a family of picky eaters - from strict vegans to snooty gourmands - with varying schedules and metabolisms. Dinning out can often be a pain, especially in smaller towns or rural areas and it's not unusual for us to prepare all of our meals in. The simple and spacious kitchen and the wonderful stove made meal prep and eating - both can be a constant activity for us - a real pleasure.
In short the home was ideal for us - provided exactly what we needed, was exactly as advertised - and would be for just about everyone. We would highly recommend.
A few pieces of advice: don't miss Black Cap coffee or the Stowe Public House for snacks and beer, Cork if you're into wines. If you are seriously into natural foods be sure to hit Commodities for groceries early on. If, like us, you have coffee and/or tea ready all the time be sure to stop for water before getting to the house - we went through nearly twenty gallons in six days.
Brought my family to Stowe in early September and was fortunate to stay at this charming home for three nights. Everything was wonderful. The location was perfect, just a ten minute walk from the town but nestled in the forest. It was well equipped and nicely decorated and in a quiet neighborhood. We had absolutely perfect summer weather while we were there and got to see all the beautiful sites of Stowe and surroundings. Would totally recommend!
We rented the house for a few months last winter. Really loved it. Only wish winter had showed up. But the place was great. Feels immediately homey, in a nice way. Location was great too. Just a bit out of downtown, so less hubbub. But close enough to walk ten, or drive two, minutes. Hosts were wonderful in helping us feel like locals, from tips on fresh bread to restaurants to help on the ski hills. Nothing but good things to say about them. Space is set up so that quite a number of folks could stay here. Only reason not to give five stars is that the master bedroom has no working shower or tub. It does have a separate bathroom, just no way to clean up. So the three bedrooms on the top floor all share a shower off one of the rooms. Which is fine for family groups. I think the hosts plan to fix the tub set up in the master bathroom, but don’t think it is done yet. Downstairs bedroom has its own shower and bath. I gather a bluetooth speaker set up has been added since we visited, which should help with tunes. Overall, the place worked great for us, and we would hope to stay again. With the one caveat, I’d recommend to anyone.
We stayed in Stowe right after Christmas and through new years with our two boys who are 5 and a half and 1 years old. Our baby is a climber and this home was perfect for him! This home has a magical energy. We all loved it! They have everything you need, even a slow cooker! And two ways to make coffee! It is very close to town. The owners were amazing! They helped us get a great babysitter and also shoveled the walkway after it snowed and checked in to see if we needed anything. I cant recommend this place enough!
Our family stayed in this very cozy house over Xmas. 5 children ranging from 12-19 and five adults. It suited us perfectly. The owner couldn't have been more accommodating putting in kitchen staples (milk, coffee, eggs, etc.) that was time saving for me. She also made many recommendations for all kinds of things and offered to get us a Xmas tree and set it up. Kitchen well supplied so we made our own dinner. Diningroom table fit our party of 9 as did the living room that's comfortably furnished. With only one shower serving three bedrooms upstairs the two night stay was maximum but no one complained. THere's a whole cabinet full of games that we discovered as we were about to leave but we'd brought our own as there was no snow this particular Xmas. Wonderful fireplace that was all set to go when we arrived and plenty of good dry wood. Near town of Stowe, easy walk. Our daughter brought her well mannered Golden Retriever who was so happy not to have been left behind with a dog sitter. Lots of charm throughout.
