All in all Furka Pass satisfied our needs for our weekend stay. However, with so many other more modern properties with easier access at the same price range, why would you stay here?
Furka Pass home feels like staying at your grandmothers house. It was last remodeled in the 1970's and has 45 years of stains on the carpets and furniture to prove it. In the kitchen, there is no dishwasher, no drying rack for your dishes, the electric stove burned our pizza. The living room is dark and is lit by a multitude of lamps (no recessed lighting to help brighten up the place). In the bedroom the beds have very little support left and are uncomfortable. There were dead bug carcasses in some of the linens that were on the beds. There were large spiders climbing the walls in the upstairs bedroom, we had to kill 3 and could not reach the 4th we saw. It is also a home best suited for guests prepared to walk up 30 steps (no longer to code, and rather dangerous) to the front door, then another flight of steps (again, not to today's code) to the two upstairs bedrooms. It has a very small hot water heater that could only sustain a single shower, despite having two bathrooms and three bedrooms. So be careful if your whole crew wants to shower at once.
On the bright side, both the street and the driveway are plowed in the event of snow. Though you may need to shovel those 30 steps if your timing is off. It is pet friendly based on the dog beds and bowls scattered about the home (thankfully that did not seem to bother my allergies much). The kitchen was stocked, there were plenty of linens in various closets and the house can get quite warm. The surroundings are beautiful and secluded and it is close to the lake. There is a cute little natural food market up the street 3 miles for groceries if you want to pay 3X the SaveMart price, SaveMart is another 5 miles up the street.
In summary, this house is not worth the weekly rate at all. It needs a few simple upgrades (though a full remodel would be in order): safer stairways inside and out, new floors, new furniture and beds, recessed lighting, new stove/fridge/dishwasher.
We appreciate your feedback on the Furka Pass home. This cabin is definitely your classic old style cabin. This home is one of our highest renting homes and we believe that it has to do with the location of the home and the price is appealing to most.
I am aware that the owner will be putting in new carpet before the summer arrives and doing a couple other things around the home.
I will bring up your concerns with bugs to the cleaners as that should have been brought to our attention during your stay and also the dog dishes in the home, we will also take that into serious consideration for our guests as they should have been put away before your arrival. We want you to feel comfortable. If there is something that you feel needs to be addressed to the office please contact us at 530-583-4292 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We pride ourselves on customer service and want to make sure that your stay with us is comfortable.
Thank you again for your feedback,

I do not typically review a house, cabin or a hotel but felt that it was needed based on the only other review. This cabin is far from 5 stars. While the location is nice and it is pet friendly those were the two best assets to this cabin. Starting with the kitchen.... very old and outdated! The oven smoked the first time we used it due to the grease build up, the sink leaked underneath (we found out the hard way) the disposal was less than efficient, the refrigerator froze fresh vegetables. The dining room table was barely able to stay up as it was loose and shook with even the tiniest of movements! It was not VERY clean, the carpet looked like it was not vacuumed prior to our arrival and obviously the oven hadn't been cleaned! The beds all sagged in the middle, the showers were tiny at best. The railing around the deck was loose and in one location was being held up by the very large tree. We did notify the rental agency about the oven and leaking sink (nothing was done during our stay which was not requested by us). I hope these issues get fixed for the next family that rents this cabin or they will be disappointed as well. It can be improved with a little investment in things like a spray faucet in the kitchen sink to make washing dishes more efficient, get the oven cleaned thoroughly, replace the dining room table(if I were to guess it is at least as old as the cabin!) and fix up the deck and railing. In closing we would not recommend this cabin to our friends or family.
Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay. This home is new to our program and has never been a rental prior to this. We will bring this issues to the owner attention and get them resolved. We look to your return to an improved home.
Sept 10 update. The home has a new dining room set, the oven has been cleaned, carpets cleaned, and the railing tighten up.
Sweet, private cabin close to the lake
This is a darling cabin with the perfect location. Walking distance to the lake (with a private beach and dock). The cabin is charming, VERY clean, and feels private and secluded. Perfect for a family or small group that wants to enjoy all of the fun things to do in the area (ski, snow shoe, sled, hike, walk along the lake, bike, paddle board, etc.) or just hang out on the little deck and enjoy the peace and beauty of the surrounding trees. Because of the way the cabin is situated, you'll feel as if you have no neighbors at all but if you want to be social the house is close to Sunnyside, West Shore Cafe, and Chamber's Landing. The cabin is cozy and has a great vibe-- I highly recommend!
