Up a hill but worth the walk. Pleasant, convenient location, great hosting.

  • 5 von 5

First off, their property manager, Barbara, was exceptionally helpful and great to work with. She met us, gave us a walking tour of the city, told us some of the ins and outs of getting along in the area. Any questions we had, she answered, and kept in touch with us throughout the visit. The property was exactly as stated with plenty of room and a pleasant, modern kitchen. The view of the city was fantastic.

A big, comfortable traditional Mexican house

  • 3 von 5

The house was very nice. We had 7 people in our party with 4 adults and 3 children ranging from 3 to 11 years old. I don't recommend this house if you're traveling with small children. The house is lovely and very Guanajuato up some steep steps and in the callejones. However, the walk from this house with children to the center of town (Jardin de Union) is not a quick 10 minute walk. With kids where you want them to be careful and not get ran over on the way, it ended up being more like 25 minutes. Guanajuato has gained a lot of traffic with their increase in tourism. We were there right after a lot rain at beginning of August which caused some unexpected visitors with 6 legs to appear in the bathrooms and the downstairs office. It made the experience less relaxing after long days out to not have to climb up to the house more than once a day. The house has no air conditioning and upstairs would stay pretty hot. We had a couple of fans and used them for the 2 rooms upstairs.

If you want a Mexican house experience, this could be the house for you. Be warned though, that you will have to deal with 2 locks on the front door, remembering to open and then lock up windows downstairs, locking the patio room door, turning the water heat up to hot and then down when you're gone, and making sure you throw all toilet paper into trash cans in the bathroom. If you're staying less than a week, you will have to throw your trash away at a nearby dump if you don't want the bathrooms stinky. This info was not provided until right before our stay. I wish we had known all of that before we booked. We ended up leaving a couple night early to stay near the Jardin in a hotel and not have to think about all the duties of the house.

Overall, it is a very nice house with great views as promised and clean otherwise. The bugs were a downer and too much work for us for what we already had on our plate with traveling with children.

Vermieter-Kommentar: Guanajuato is known for it's alleyways (callejones). Centro is at the bottom and the city spreads upwards rather than outwards. With the city at an altitude of 6,600 feet, some people get winded just walking around centro. The callejones can be a challenge for any new visitor to the city, yet is also part of the charm. As the city is in the mountains the temperature range is not too diverse. It does get cold in the wintertime (as low as the 40s at night but generally in the high 60s or low 70s during the day) & can get warm during the dry season which is around April/May where temps can only get down to the 70s at night & up to the high 80s during the day. Homes in Guanajuato typically do not have AC nor central heating. Most people tend to use fans and space heaters during the short periods of heat and cold. Nevertheless, mountain climates can be unpredictable. Not much one can do about mother nature. Additionally, climate change is having an affect worldwide altering weather patters that were once very steady & predictable. Unfortunatley the rainy season (June - Aug) can bring unwanted surprises. Although it rarely, if ever, rains all day every day, sporadic, heavy downpours that are typical during during this time of year bring the bugs out seeking dry areas. Again, mother nature at work & not much can be done in regards to controlling the weather and any of its effects. The sewage and septic systems throughout Mexico require almost all people to put used toilet paper into the trash cans. The only places that DON'T require that are the big mega resorts on the coasts. Even the nicest of hotels in Guanajuato require toilet paper to be thrown in the trash (although they might not post it) but they are beholden to the same sewage and septic systems as the residents. I do believe our house manager sent a copy of the house instructions prior to your arrival that mentions this. But again, this is standard practice throughout the country and the dumpster is at the bottom of the alleyway so bringing a trash bag on your way out of the house is not really a cause to go out of one's way. Homes throughout Mexico have many locks and bolts. It's a standard measure of security for houses. Some have big main gates with locks and then locks on the front doors as well. Private homes are not manned 24/7 as hotels are. Locks are the security system of 99.99999% of the population of not just this city but throughout the country.

airy, comfortable house with fantastic view in friendly neighborhood

  • 4 von 5

We loved this house. It is partway up a typical Guanajuato callejon just above Embajadoras park, and a short walk to the center. The view is amazing and the rooms are airy, comfortable, and simply but beautifully furnished. The kitchen is well appointed. The neighborhood feels friendly and safe (though like most Mexican neighborhoods, not quiet). Barbara Davoli was very attentive - we had a minor problem with the gas (now repaired) and she helped us deal with it right away. Juanita did a great job cleaning the house, washing the sheets etc. We were delighted with our stay!

Wonderful way to know Guanajuato

  • 5 von 5

We were 2 couples who rented this lovely property during Semana Santa (Holy Week). It was a great vacation for us. We felt like we were a part of the neighborhood and a part of Guanajuato. The mornings with the sun coming up over the house and lighting the hillside was beautiful. Watching the lights of Guanajuato come on each evening was also a treat.

Having Barbara meet us and show us the house was so nice and her tour of the city, pointing out shops, museums, things to see and favorite restaurants all added to a wonderful and comfortable time for us.

As others have said, the only downside was the noise at nights, especially dogs and an occasional rooster. But that's a part of Mexico.

Definitely recommend this property and this city.

Mexican style with all the comforts of home

  • 4 von 5

This house felt like home to us, in an authentic Mexican neighbourhood. It’s close to all the tourist attractions, restaurants, and the best language school in the city. The house has American-style comfort and a stunning view of the city.

We stayed here for two months, attending language classes at La Hacienda Spanish School, which is a five-minute walk from the house.

We loved waking up to the view of the city in the comfortable king-size bed in the master bedroom.

The house is clean and uncluttered, decorated in an authentically Mexican style, including a Talavera kitchen that is a delight to cook in. The wi fi connection is excellent; it’s the best you can get in Guanajuato. We liked the laundry facilities on site, and Juanita, the cleaning lady is a gem. The hot water is adequate, although the water pressure is not what you’d find in North America.

There are only two drawbacks to the house: the noise and the steep climb. The city of Guanajuato is shaped like a bowl and noise echoes all day and all night. But that’s Mexico—it’s noisy.

We considered the daily climb up 32 steps to the house as part of our exercise routine. But it could be difficult for those who are out of shape or have bad knees.

We felt welcome from our first day thanks to our warm welcome from Barbara, the house manager. She ensured that we always had everything we needed. The homeowners, Tim and Donna, are very responsive to any queries and have a great collection of DVDs--if you have time to watch TV.
