Our host's representative, Paola, was so friendly (her restaurant recommendations were terrific, too), and we were delighted by the gift of a welcoming bottle of Italian red wine. The city center is full of 400-year-old buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, lots of charm...and an active night scene. Read: noisy. The apartment was absolutely perfect for three- we each had our own space (though sleeping on a small convertible sofa is something one of us- me- hadn't done in a long time). Being on the first floor was convenient, but for three women used to quiet neighborhoods, it was hard to get a good night's rest after a day of sightseeing. The thumping music from the bar next door and the loud voices continued until well after midnight, and Saturday night was the worst: a huge yelling fight went on for nearly an hour before we finally heard a few police siren blasts to break it up.
Three of us stayed in the Bargello apartment for three nights in July. The communication process in booking the apartment and arranging our arrival was smooth, and the owner was courteous. As another reviewer noted, the street and entrance are not especially impressive, and the inner stairway is grim. But the apartment itself was pleasant and comfortable, and the location is excellent. We walked to all the attractions. Lots of restaurants nearby -- one of our favorites was Ristorante la Maremma -- and there is a great gelato place just around the corner. We did not cook, per se, and cooking a full meal would have been a challenge in the tiny kitchen area; there is no counter space for preparation. A few upgrades -- a soap holder in the shower, hooks for hanging towels or clothes, a working AC in the living room, and a mop of the floors so our feet didn't turn black when we went barefoot -- would rate another star.
Just spent 4 nights in the Bargello apartment with the family - 2 adults and 2 children. This was the last leg of our 2 week trip in Italy. The apartment building is very conveniently located - 5 mins to Palazzo Vecchio, less than 5 mins to the Duomo, and 3 mins to groceries. Plenty of restaurants around – though not too many of them well rated – need to go little further for those. The bedrooms are comfortable - but most probably best for 2 adults and 2 or 3 children. The bathroom, while spacious, needs some simple conveniences such as a toilet paper holder, and a rack in the shower for soap and shampoos – and maybe provide some small soaps and shampoos. The kitchen, while functional is really tight - even if just to prepare breakfast. There is practically no counter space - would have made sense to place the microwave over the stove..... but otherwise, the kitchen is quite functional. There is plenty of storage in the unit. The alley approach is a bit of a put off, but don't let that throw you off...... the stair, however, could certainly do with an upgrade.
The owners were responsive and helpful. They presented us with a bottle of Chianti when we checked in - though we did not consume it as we are white wine drinkers. Internet worked great! We did not need to use the AC as the weather was awesome. Noise is certainly a concern at night with a lot of drunken revelers strolling the streets - would have been easy to put in some better sound proofed doors/windows.
Overall, I'd rate this a decent/good apartment. Not great! We stayed in far nicer facilities in other cities. The Bargello unit is a very small investment from being set up as a really good apartment.
Appartamento centralissimo posizione eccellente. Proprietario molto cortese e disponibile: ci ha prenotato il garage e ci ha omaggiato una bottiglia di vino appena arrivati. Appartamento comodo per famiglia con due ragazzi. Da consigliare.
The location is fantastic-walk to all the sites and lots of restaurants close.
The support staff was really helpful, met us on time, good suggestions about sites and shops etc. Arranged taxi for return to airport.
