We had a delightful stay at the Rock Creek Cabin. The house was very clean with excellent facilities. The view is excellent with the creek nearby. The host was excellent. She had some cookies for kids and a variety of food in the refrigerator as well. Bathrooms were very clean as well. Great way to relax for a weekend!
Thank you very much. We loved the stay!
We just got back from our quick 2-day getaway to the Ouachita Mountains. From the moment we walked in, the cabin welcomed us home. Everything is very well-appointed: living spaces, sleeping arrangements, amenities. The location is break-taking, overlooking the beautiful creek that is visible from nearly every room in the cabin. The icing on the cake was the many home-made goods and fresh eggs provided by our hosts. Yum!
Our family of four made use of the two queen beds in the bedrooms and the sofabed in the living room. There were lots of comforters available to take the chill out of the air. The kitchen and dining area are small but well-stocked -- and we loved the beautiful Fiesta-ware that was provided. We also appreciated the bottled water that was provided, as the tap water has a sulphur-y smell to it.
The property is quite large and adds to the feeling of secludedness, even though it's only minutes from town. There are many large, mature trees on the property and, of course, the creek that runs through the backyard. There are three separate bench swings to sit and enjoy the view from; one on the large wrap-around porch, the other two by the creek. There is also a picnic table on the porch that we would have loved to use, but the weather was just a bit too chilly. :)
While our cell signal was spotty and there is no wi-fi, we actually appreciated a forced break from being "connected" to enjoy some true R & R away from the business of life. There are a few board games and many DVDs as well to pass the time away. We also brought our favorites from home.
Mena didn't have a whole lot that interested us as a family, but we enjoyed our drive on the Talimena Byway to Queen Wilhelmina State Park. What a view! The cabin was perfectly located to catch the byway.
I can't say enough good things about this place, and would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Pros: extremely clean and uncluttered cabin, has essentials in the kitchen for making dinner/breakfasts, nice babbling brook behind the house, fresh eggs and delicious treats in fridge upon arrival :)
Cons: no curtain on master bedroom sliding glass door, no curtains in living room (making it difficult to sleep past sunrise or for our young kids to nap), train runs behind the house (far enough that you can't see it but close enough to hear it, thankfully it didn't sound the horn in the middle of the night), water has strong sulfur odor
Overall we enjoyed our stay! It was close to hiking trails and a short drive to the state park.
The home is gorgeous. Looks freshly remodeled. The view of the creek is great. We walked down to the water everyday! Only 5-6 miles from town and close to many interesting places. Will definitely be back!
Lovely quaint cottage in the woods. We were greeted with fresh baked cookies and fresh eggs. Tons of extra pillows and quilts to make the beds even more comfortable. No wifi, but I honestly didn't even notice. Burbling stream off the back deck. Several unusual and beautiful moths by the porch light at night. Was a little tight for 5 people, though, but it forced us to interact!
We chose the Rock Creek Cabin for a 3 night get away from the business of the city. The area is beautiful. The property is large (sits on several acres), remote and somewhat peaceful. The shallow stream that the kids played in was a bonus. The cabin is newer with a fully supplied kitchen, laundry/bathroom area and plenty of extra quilts and blankets for cold nights. It's very clean, crisp and comfortable. We brought our crockpot - so when we returned in the evening from exploring the area...dinner was ready. There is no wifi or cable....but plenty of movies to select for the dvd player. . We hiked in the nearby mountains and enjoyed eating at some of the local restaurants in town. The only downside for us was another cabin/home/residence? about 30 yards from the front porch of the cabin....and the people who lived there would come and go late at night and they were there sometimes during the day also. We felt like we were intruding on someones property...which was very awkward. Also seeing and hearing cars come and go late at night was odd - so we didn't rest well.
