Very private with fruit galore!
We had a family of 12, from 2- 52. We used the Banyan, Bamboo and Mango houses. Banyan and Bamboo are connected by the front porch and a common area that could be another bedroom, if needed. Mango was a completely separate house about 30 steps away. The houses are very clean and we loved the rustic, jungle feel. The outside showers are a must try! Samantha was wonderful to answer questions and responded quickly to us with minor requests. (light bulbs, how to get the remote fan to work). There were many items already there: shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, propane for the grill, salt, pepper, beach towels, etc. You can get delicious fresh fruit from the trees; mango, coconut and avocado. We did use the boogie boards and beach chairs they provided several times. There are a couple of villages within 2-5 miles for meals, groceries, coffee, ice cream, etc. A down side of the stay was the location to "attractions". We drove a minimum of 30 mins. to get to them. Larger cities were 1-2 hour drives. Spencer beach wasn't too far with another beach a short hike down the trail. Some had a difficult time sleeping with no a/c (although many fans)and the tree frogs that sing when it gets dark (they are loud but you get use to it) but the beds were very comfortable. The price was right. If you are after the attractions, this may not be a good choice. If you are after more privacy and less expensive things to do, this is the place to be. We loved our stay!
Warm & welcoming
With 3 generations,16 people ages 7-70, our family had no complaints with this tropical retreat. Samantha was a cheerful guide when we arrived and responded w any questions we had promptly & courteously. Michael also made sure we felt welcome, checking with us as we settled into the home he built with loving care. We used the Mango house as a quiet zone as it was down the path a bit, while the main house had all the family interaction as well as meal making central, the teen cousins took over the attached suite for nights filled with giggles - autonomous from the grown ups, yet only a door between us to feel safe & secure. The frogs and birds lulled us to sleep every night, the proximity to hiking, snorkeling, and the shops/farmers market kept our crew busy all day, and in the evenings our kids had plenty of games to occupy their time. Kitchens were amply supplied w appliances and cookware, even a few pantry items. Beds were comfy and bathrooms were clean. Plenty of towels, toilet paper, and hot water. Laundry was convenient and appreciated. The driving directions take you exactly where you are supposed to be, just need to trust them. We questioned if we should turn down the narrow lane, but two mini vans and a car fit just fine. We stayed in Kona prior, had a nice time in the hustle and bustle. But Banyon/Mango, the staff, and the area it is nestled in, well, it is Hawaii in all her glory - lush, local charm, and lavished in Aloha spirit. We would go back to Northern Hawaii in a heartbeat. Mahalo!

Off the Grid Comfort
My friends and I enjoyed our stay at this private Kapa'au property. The manager was responsive to my texts and helped us settle in! She also gave us recommendations for services in nearby Hawi. We had a lot of room to stretch out, inside the common room and on the downstairs lanai.
The property is very secluded and a bit tricky to get there, but once you are there it is a jewel!
We celebrated our family's 30th anniversary with 18 people there altogether. The property was just perfect for our whole crew. It provided enough space for privacy when needed and space for us all to get together for dinners, etc. The site manager, Samantha, provided excellent directions to get to the property and she continued to support us as required during the entire stay. All-in-all, my wife and I agreed that this was the best "total family" get together/vacation we have ever had. Thank you Erin and Samantha!!
