|Mindestaufenthalt||3 - 5 Nächte|
In an increasingly popular Cinque Terre, this rental offered us a getaway near all, but distant from the maddening crowds. Quite and comfortable, the unit was well appointed for those who wish to cook inside - and footsteps away from a restaurant that features creative seafood and other dishes. Celso was attentive and gracious - picking us up and taking us to the train and ensuring our comfort. Only wish the weather was better so we may have enjoyed the patio. I'd recommend to anyone visiting the area who wants to be comfortable but not among crowds - and would stay here again readily.
We spent a week in Kiwi with our children and had a great time. Manarola is a lovely little port / resort the Cinque Terre are delightful and Celso was a charming and accommodating host ! Kiwi is comfortable and well appointed and we had a lovely stay there. We asked for a Barebeque and one was provided we had a broken washing machine and he instantly provided us access to another. He met us when we arrived and gave us lots of lemons from his orchard....if only we could have thought of something to do with them all !
Do not miss taking the boat along the coast the sunset from the small jetty just to the North of Manarola the fabulous cliff top walk towards Corniglia and Vernazza (by train or boat)....all really lovely
It is possible to walk down to Manarola with the small path and is a pleasant walk down.....the return would be quite an effort in summer ! We usually took the local bus (at least every hour 1E50c fare / 7 min ride) from Groppo into Manarola (parking is nearly impossible during the day in Manarola) and then on to the rest of the Cinque Terre (by train or boat) In theory we could have managed without the rental car that we travelled in but there is very limited shopping in Manarola (and nearly nothing in Groppo so we did benefit from a couple of supermarket trips to La Spezia which is about 30 mins away and has everything. We were largely self catering with 2 young children.
In terms of Kiwi only a few nits to mention:
There is no kettle so it is necessary to boil water on the gas hob in a small pan
The wifi is provide from a small battery powered 3g Wireless dongle router and frankly it rarely had service - I am not sure if this was the router or the 3g service but we had to manage from WiFi hotspots in local cafe's for any online time.....not tragic but beware your children may be frustrated if they are online game junkies like ours tend to be !
As already mentioned the washing machine was not working and we had to use another one in a separate building that Celso immediately provided the key for
Overall a lovely stay in a lovely appartment with a lovely host
Thanks for a great holiday !
This little gem of a place in the town of Groppo is exactly what we needed after the cacaphony of Rome. The house is absolutely spotless and the owner Celso is delightful. Celso picked us up from the train station and personally drove us to the house and checked on us the following day to make sure all was well. A small village nestled in terraced hills above Manarola, Groppo offers a quiet retreat with easy walking access to Manarola and Volastra. We enjoyed our three nights there with spectacular views. Highly recommended for those seeking peace and quiet with easy access to the other Cinque Terres. Thank you Celso!
