Delightful hosts very helpful and accommodating!
Property sits in the jungle where you are awakened by monkeys each morning! This is a simple place, not for those looking for luxuries like air conditioning. Though the owners who built it have added some lovely natural touches.
Nature Lovers' Paradise
We wanted to stay somewhere beautiful that was peaceful and close to nature, and found Estrella Lodge with its 5 star reviews giving wonderfully detailed descriptions of the experiences of other travellers, along with well-deserved praise for Patricia and Simon. It seemed to suit us perfectly, and the reality exceeded our expectations.
The lodge sits in its own jungle garden. It was designed and furnished to very high standards by Patricia and Simon and is spotlessly clean and well cared for. The large front deck is made from teak grown on site, and you can spend hours there looking out at the wildlife that parades in front of you.
Patricia and Simon are the perfect hosts - there if you need them, but respectful of your privacy. They take great pride in what they have created, and go out of their way to ensure that you have a wonderful experience.
We spent 3 glorious weeks at Estrella, and could easily have stayed longer. There was plenty to do: we went to local beaches, rivers and waterfalls, did the trip to Islas Tortuga (which was well worth it) and visited nearby places such as Cabuya, Montezuma, Cóbano and Santa Teresa. We ate some great food in local restaurants and, just before we left, had a memorable meal as the sun went down, at the wonderful restaurant 'Playa de los Artistas’ where Patricia had managed to get us a beachfront table.
We were very sad to leave. It has only been a week since we left Estrella Lodge, but we are already thinking about when we can return.
Thank you Patricia and Simon for everything, it was a huge pleasure and privilege to stay at your delightful property.

Clean, well equipped, lovely property.
My daughter and I came to the Nicoya Peninsula not knowing what to expect. We chose Estrella based on the exotic pictures and good reviews. We were not disappointed. We loved the area, the cottage and our hosts made us feel comfortable and very welcome. We made wonderful memories and fell in love with Costa Rica.
This is exactly what we were hoping for!
From the start of our stay to the very end, our experience with Patricia and Simon's bungalow was incredible! The bungalow is beautiful, calm and had everything we needed for our stay. It was surrounded by a lushness that welcomed all sorts of wildlife into our yard, including two types of monkeys! The foliage kept our place nice and cool and was a sweet relief from the heat of the beach. The beach was just a five minute walk away and we generally had a huge expanse of Playa Los Cedros all to ourselves everyday. Patricia and Simon are also wonderful hosts! They gave us the insider's scoop on the area including local transportation, things to do that are off the beaten track AND how to find their favorite fisherman's house. We bought the freshest seafood we've had in years, practically straight off the boat! We are excited to share this property with friends who are heading to Costa Rica and hope to return ourselves in the future.
Perfection in paradise.
The warm welcome from Patricia and Simon was but a reflection of the warmth of the Costa Rican country and it's people. I felt like I had arrived home in my own paradise on the Nicoya Peninsula. The little cottage was a work of art and beautiful with incredible details that made me so happy every day. Our hosts, Patricia and Simon, have made a place for serenity and joy. You can feel the love that they put into building it. Also they were so helpful in finding us places to go and assisting with booking excursions. You can count on their recommendations for dining too! I was there for my 66th birthday and Patricia made sure that we had a beachfront table at Playa des los Artistes for a magnificent birthday dinner. It couldn't have been a more perfect way to spend my special day. I was even delivered a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from their garden! My daughter-in-law, Jeanine, had asked Patricia to pick up flowers in town and Patricia laughed at her. "We have flowers in our gardens, we don't have to buy them!" We felt like Patricia and Simon were friends from the moment we arrived. The grounds were enchanting with many friendly animals. Don't miss putting your fruits and veggies in the compost pile if you want company! Pineapple, the coatimundi, was a frequent visitor. The hardest part was having to leave but hopefully I will return someday. Don't think twice if you are looking for a place to stay for your visit to the peninsula. You won't regret it!
