We really enjoyed our stay at this apartment! Although it is an older building with dated decor, the apartment is cozy and quiet, and there was plenty of space for two adults and a child. And there were groceries for us when we arrived - eggs, OJ, almond milk, cereal, soup - a nice touch. It is in a great location - close to parks, restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. We really enjoyed walking around the neighborhood. We almost didn't book it because of the negative review from Sept 2016 (a really unfair and mean review), but are so glad that we did. We would stay there again, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you!
This is a review of VRBO #432153, Evanston apartment. The unit was booked for 4 nites. First of all, the photos that are shown of the rental space is NOT the apartment that we were given. It is a completely different place, so the pics are falsely representing the property.
We arrived late on Tuesday nite, so didn’t get a good look till Wed. morn. We figured that because we had already paid upfront, we had no recourse but to wait it out, because upon viewing the space in daylight, we were quite disappointed. The space we did get was dark, smelly and really sub standard. The kitchen was dirty and had a very strange odor to it. Would not remotely consider cooking in this kitchen. The bathroom floor was dirty, although the bath fixtures were new. The bath sink drained very slowly and only got worse as the days went on. The liner paper put into the bedroom drawers was dated 1992. There was no way our clothes were going in there. The bedding smelled stale and not fresh.
Bottom line, we were in the unit as little as possible and even vacated it one nite early as the bathroom sink completely clogged and we had just had enough. Lost money for sure, but needed to be out of there. Would not recommend this place TO ANYONE!!!
We couldn't have asked for a better location. The beds were comfortable. It was air conditioned and there was a flat screened TV. It had all the comforts of home and even had goodies waiting for us in the refrigerator! I also loved the space age toilet seat and the light went on automatically when you walked into the bathroom!
The space was large but many rooms did not match pictures. Owners were accommodating and generously provided some basic food items. However, apartment was in disrepair (leaky window, microwave faceplate fell off). Kitchen was missing some items we would have liked to use for cooking. The place was adequate but not exactly 'lovely'
While not for everyone, this two bedroom apartment, centrally located in Evanston, was perfect lodging for a Father, one adult son, and two teenage sons. We were visiting the Chicago area to see family and take in a couple of ballgames (Go Cubs!). It was by far the most reasonable accommodations offered in Evanston, so nothing near House Beautiful standards, but perfect for four men "bacheloring it." We didn't use the kitchen for cooking, preferring to eat out. But we slept comfortably, were able to keep up with politics and sports via a large-screen television, and enjoyed the neighborhood. We were able to walk to the "L" on Main Street, and used it to go to Wrigley Field one day, and the Art Institute on another.
Our host, Mr Khan was thoroughly delightful, and informative.
My husband and I rented this apartment for 2 1/2 weeks. The apartment is better suited for a stay of a couple of days rather than the longer stay we had. The kitchen was very small with little counter space for cooking, had no dishwasher, and lacked some basic kitchen tools for cooking from scratch. There was also little space to store dishes and pots and pans, which made it more difficult to cook.
The other drawbacks were an small bathroom, and an uncomfortable, soft mattress. Also, I expected the apartment to be cleaned more professionally because there is a cleaning fee. Instead, there was dust and cobwebs under the furniture and the bathroom was not scoured as it should have been.
That said, the owner is very nice and did try to supply items requested, and the owner did leave some food and cleaning supplies for us. The apartment is also located on a quiet street and very conveniently located to downtown Evanston, and public transportation. We were able to bike or walk downtown and to nice restaurants and Whole Foods. Being 1/2 mile from the Metra made it easy to get to downtown Chicago for some fun exploration.
