Hope to return next year. Location was very private and beautiful.
The cabin was clean : ) we had everything we needed. Only 2 minutes from left flank climbing area! The incinerator toilet is loud and we found it helpful to pee outside. We needed extra water and it was delivered immediately. There was an air mattress and fold out couch if needed. The fridge is small so plan well. Driveway was fine. Overall- great stay.
Loved the quaint little cabin high on the ridge. Stove and toilet got a little getting use to-for town dwellers, but once we did, it was fine. Hiked the beautiful trails from the cabin, made good food over campfire or on the stove, relaxed on the porch overlooking tree covered hillside. Really quiet and relaxing. The forest is a treasure and we loved every minute breathing fresh clean air and enjoying the fall foliage. Hated to leave. Can't wait to come back. Thanks.
We had a wonderful time during our 2 night stay in Glaucomys Suite. The cabin is very unique and there is so much detail in the structure and layout. We loved the style of the kitchen and had fun cooking meals on the gas stove. Toilet took a little getting used to, but was not as bad as we anticipated. The drive up to the cabin was comparable to off roading. We would recommend having 4 wheel drive, however there were many 2 wheel drive cars up there at other cabins. Other cabins were near, but they were not in sight and we never heard anyone else during our stay. The back porch was perfect for sitting and drinking coffee in the morning. On the down side, we were disappointed that the cabin was not clean. It was in need of a deep cleaning and this is what we would expect when there is such a high cleaning fee you are required to pay. Another area of disappointment was the apparent renovations being done on the cabin ( several large dry wall patching throughout the main living area.) This would not have bothered us if we were informed prior to our stay. We did have problems getting into the cabin when we first arrived, however we were able to get ahold of the owners right away and they were very helpful. If you are looking for a quite get away this would be a good place to go. We love the Red River Gorge area. Recommend eating at Miguels Pizza as well as the Sky Bridge Station.
Very cute cabin with very unique interior. I loved the old gas stove and the cast iron cook ware! Back porch and fire pit outside were also great.
The only complaint we have is that the cabin needed some cleaning. Some of the cook ware was not usable, because it was so grimey, and everything was very dusty. It's a great policy to have guests leave the place the way they found it, but you cannot solely rely on that.
My adult daughter and I stayed at the cabin for a long weekend father-daughter trip.
It was a short drive to both Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge for hiking, which we did plenty of.
There is not much for supplies nearby, but hitting the next exit on the interstate got us groceries and supplies.
The cabin seemed a bit small at first, but then it seemed just right. Back deck was nice for reading and listening to the rain and inside it was surprisingly warm and cozy. Sleep came easy.
One thing that took us a while to catch was that the heater in the living room has a switch on the top/back of the right side of it, that turns it on. Once it turns on, it doesn't need to be on for long. It puts out plenty of heat and the cabin holds it well.
We cooked several meals in the kitchen and had no trouble with what looked liked an old stove. We cooked both on the stove and in the oven and the food came out just fine. There is plenty of china and silverware. The small "dorm" sized fridge was the right size.
The bathroomn is well done and interesting. Gave me some ideas for my own bathroom. Shower is plenty big and the is ample hot water and water pressure.
I ended up folding out the couch for sleeping, though if more than one bed is needed, you might conside a blow-up one.
Since there is no TV, which is a good thing, we ended up listening to the iPod, which was hooked in to a small amp, all weekend. There was a really good selection of good music on it. Some 6,000 songs.
Just after we turned on to KY 77, we stopped for a load of firewood. There were 3 men selling dry wood and they were complete gentlemen. Did a nice job of loading wood in to the car and making sure we had ample kindling.
Only issue was all the rain, which did not stop us from hiking, but did keep us from being able to make "Hobos" in the fire. Ended up making them in the oven, but it was not quite as much fun.
Overall it was a great trip and we hated to leave. We got just what he hoped for out of the cabin.
