For the past three years, we have been visiting Vermont in the fall and this year did not disappoint! Our stay at Thomas' house was wonderful. We would light a fire in the wood burning stove almost every night. Kayak on the calm lake behind the house in the evenings. The screened in porch was a great place to sit with some coffee and listen to the loon's calling. Location was fantastic too. An hour or less away from all the places we wanted to visit: Stowe, Mt. Mansfield, Franconia Notch State Park. Would recommend to family and friends and visit again on another Vermont trip! Thanks for sharing your home with us Thomas!
Fun! Fun! Fun!
Rustic. Homey. Amazing location right on Curtis Pond. We did lots of kayaking and biking and swimming. So much fun. The owner is very responsive and helpful. Thanks.
Thank you so much for the nice words. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stand and are extremely grateful of how you left our place. Spotless to say the least!
Thank you again for staying!
Just what we were looking for
Very comfortable and cozy.
Very quiet loved it enjoyed our stay
Not quite what we exected.
First, Thomas was great to work with, responsive and helpful - no issues there whatsoever.
On our expectation side of things, we were highly aware that we were staying in a cabin - nothing super fancy but necessary to avoid rainy days/nights in a tent with the amenities to make five days away with kids a bit more enjoyable.
It should be noted that the water is non-potable which is an important consideration (especially with kids) and that although the photo and description indicate a washer/dryer, there are none. The house was relatively clean all things considered, however, the "not seen" parts of the floor (e.g. - under beds, side of cabinets, etc.) were super filthy and lots of dust bunnies, etc. Again, I note this with the reality of having two children stay who tend to move beyond just the walking space! The personal items left out was a bit much to be honest given that it was a rental as well - from a tube of eye drops in the living room to a half empty bottle of soda in the kitchen - for us, honestly, it was just beyond the "lived in/homey" feel and more of an uncomfortable stay in the house of someone we did not know.
We did our best to spend the better part of the days out and about adventuring around Vermont rather than in and around the cabin. Most of our adventures took us between 30-130 minutes from this location - not the best/not the worst. The road up to the house was in super rough shape and with quite a slope. Thankfully. I had an all-wheel drive SUV - fairly certain a sedan of any sort would have bottomed out with the major ruts and washed away areas. Again, something to consider!
There is not much land around the cabin (thinking of kids being able to run around and stretch their legs a bit) and the stairs to the dock and dock itself were too narrow/steep to let them use. Likewise, as one of the comments mentioned previously, the water is not for swimming around the cabin...you would need to go to the public access around the bend.
Fairly loud at night between fireworks being set off two houses down one night to loud voices travelling over the water from the public access area until 9-10pm. The process to check in/out was difficult as the person in charge of this was not accessible by phone which made it tough.
I use VRBO a lot and I appreciated the owners speedy responses along the way and outreach to assist in our travel to VT, however, this would not be a location I would look to book in the future.
Great place to stay
This little place on Curtis Pond was perfect for our week of hiking. Waking up to the beauty of Curtis Pond and returning for the sunsets was great. Quiet the whole time, convenient to Montpeilar, and very private. Wi-Fi worked great, but you really don't want to spend much time connected. A nice family aura.
Dieses Haus befindet sich am Ende des Justa Rd. Calais in Vermont.
