Doug is the man!!
We found this home via Sharr who is awesome and can surf!! Casa Colores is a nice home works well for two couples. Close walk to the beach. The house is clean and well maintained. Rolondo the landscaper was very helpful. Doug is the swiss-army-knife neighbor always there to help even if its 1230 at night. thx Doug we owe you.. Overall good experience..
Tim and Connor we simply loved hosting you both and look forward to having you back here again soon. The waves are waiting for you ;) Pura Vida. Sharr
Very happy with accommodations and the help received from the property manager. I would certainly use the service again, and would recommend this property also.
This was our second stay in Palm Beach Estates. We appreciate the area for a peaceful retreat; however, the hustle bustle of Tamarindo is just a short boat ride away if that's what you're looking for. There are nice restaurants located right in Palm Beach Estates although two of them were closed during our stay - hope they re-open. Playa Grande was perfect! Most mornings we felt we had the entire beach to ourselves (never crowded at any time) and evenings offered beautiful sunsets. Christy was awesome as usual and answered any questions super fast. Casa Colores provided everything we needed for our stay. Clean and spacious-perfect for two couples-exactly as advertised.
We had a blast! My wife and I decided to take an adventure to Costa Rica. We wanted to explore the countryside and try some surfing. Sharr, who coordinates with you via VRBO, and Doug & Kristi, who reside nearby, were fantastic! Sharr took the guess work out of our trip by coordinating travel to and from the airport. Doug and Kristi attended to our every need, providing surf boards, bikes...even private surfing lessons from Doug. The house is incredibly spacious and has everything you could ever need. Having bikes provided opportunity to venture off the local property for exploring and trying local cuisine. I wish we had more time. Our trip was truly unforgettable.
Very very nice
It was great. Our stay was perfect. It is a beautiful large house well secure, equipped and functional. The patio and the garden are very good for eating and the 5 to 7.
Thank you Christi for their welcome and advice on arrival.
Five minutes walk from the beach and close to services in Hucas and Taramindo. It is true :)
I recommend it without hesitation.
Beautiful house, difficult manager
The house was just like it is in the photos. Clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The beds were comfy and the house was laid out well for 2 couples. We were a bit worried about security before we got there but there is an alarm system on the house and multiple locking doors and gates. There is also a guy that lives about the garage, Doug, who keeps an eye on things. He was super friendly and attentive to whatever we needed. It's a bit of a walk to the beach and there is not any shade at the beach in Playa Grande, which was a bummer. It was too hot to stay down there for very long. But great surf! The town of Playa Grande is really cool and laid back. A really nice alternative to Tamarindo.
Our only gripe with the trip was in dealing with Sharr the property manager. We were never provided with contact numbers for her or anyone else and told that in order to get into the house, we needed to go to nearby Hotel Bula Bula and have them call Murat (the onsite manager, who was awesome, friendly, and knowledgeable). We assumed that the people at Bula Bula would know who he was or have his phone number but they did not. We ended up sitting at the bar for 2 hours until we finally found someone that knew where he lived. We walked to his place (which was close) and he let us in. We emailed Sharr and told her we were heading over to the hotel in advance and her only reply was "I don't know where Murat is right now". No instructions on how to access the house or get in contact with Murat. We emailed her several times while we were waiting at the bar and she never responded. Not super professional. We did end up getting into the house by 2pm or so, which was the check in time.
I would also advise against renting surf boards from Sharr. The rate she offered us was way more than what the local surf shops offer and when we realized that and turned our boards in early, she really hassled us about paying for the full week. We finally settled on a price after a week of email arguing. Not the kind of treatment you would expect from someone you are renting a house from. Definitely the low point of our trip. Also, our car was broken into in Flamingo and we were robbed of wallets and bags and phones.
Aside from that, we were lucky enough to catch sushi night in Playa Grande (thanks Murat!). We loved Rip Jack's and Catarana was great too. We drove to Avellanas one day and that was also incredible! We used Tamarindo Transfers to get to and from the airport and it was great!
It is unfortunate to receive a review with complaints but it is fortunate as owners and managers we are able to personally respond and explain so other renters may understand more.
You arrived early, not at the time arranged for checkin. Naturally this had us scrambling to arrange the earlier checkin for you when the manager and staff were already working at other properties. This is why we responded by saying we do not know where the manager is and would need to locate him. Additional your surfboards were reserved in advance and the price was also agreed to in advance. We did not charge you in advance as you asked if you could pay cash. Attempts to collect during your stay were avoided by you. We usually charge in advance for all services that are reserved ahead of time. In this case it was a mistake on our part. This would have prevented the situation that followed. So that you know the board prices we use are consistent with the local surfshops in Playa Grande. We have been renting boards for many many years and at the same price. It is not acceptable practice to agree to a service at a given price and then after having used the service claim you are not accepting the price.
Tamarindo board rental prices may be cheaper than ours but their boards are cheap quality and you have to go across and pickup and dropoff in Tamarindo yourself. Our guests prefer our better quality boards and are happy to pay a bit more for convenience.
But most importantly it needs to be noted that you LEFT WITHOUT PAYING!!! This is perhaps the worst guest behaviour we have ever had. It appears intentions here were to avoid not paying at all until we requested a settlement to be deducted from your security deposit which was a fortunate safeguard for us. Had it not been for the security deposit we hold for damages or non-payment (albeit the first we have ever had), we would have been left with no compensation for the board rental. In the end we agreed the board rental price you were demanding to meet the prices of Tamarindo with the threat that if we didn't do so you would post a negative review. So we obliged and you posted a negative review anyway!!! A very very disappointing rental experience. I would advise other rental owners in the area to avoid renting to this client.
