First of all, a big THANK YOU to Wade and Brian for their hospitality, kindness and generosity. They are amazing and caring hosts. To the fellow travelers reading this review, you won’t find better people to deal with.
The property is beautiful and offers everything you may need. We were four people and found the house spacious; both rooms are large and have ocean view. The beach was our backyard and the pool a great alternative when we didn't feel like dealing with the waves. Internet was fast and reliable, and the washer and dryer a huge plus.
All we could hear at night was the ocean, nothing else.
Chuburna is a small village and a vehicle is a must to get around. It’s very safe, people are friendly, and there are a few great places to eat (our favorites were TacoMaya and La Playa in Chelem). We went a few times to Progreso for groceries (Bodega Aurrera is a good supermarket, with ATM included), and to shop for souvenirs around the Malecon. There are also good restaurants in that area. It’s a 15-20 minutes drive from the house.
Merida is only 45’ away, and you can visit Uxmal's ruins and some beautiful Cenotes if you are willing to drive for 1 ½ hour. The highways are pretty straightforward and not busy, although I’d recommend having a GPS if you are not familiar with the area.
We truly enjoyed every minute of our stay, and most important, we felt at home. Thanks again for a wonderful experience.
I have to say this is the hardest review I have ever written. On the one hand I don't want to rave about this property, which is truly appropriate, because I want to keep this paradise to myself. However the owners deserve all the accolades they get for creating this wonderful experience and being such gracious hosts.
First the property. This is a beautifully decorated house set on immaculately maintained grounds and as the photos accurately show is directly on the beach. We didn't use the pool but only because the ocean and beach were so perfect. Warm water, with beautiful blue green colors and calm waves, especially in the morning and early afternoon. Both bedrooms were large with comfortable beds and views to the sea. Well appointed kitchen where we cooked the majority of our meals. Great covered patio with beautiful table was perfect for reading, eating, and, relaxing. Perfect size for our two couples. There is a washer and dryer as well which cuts down on the amount of clothes you need to bring, and yes air conditioning!
I would definitely recommend renting a car as the town of Chelem, where most restaurants, small grocery, and limited liquor store are, is a 10 minute or so drive. The owners will definitely hook you up with all the recommendations you need. This is definitely a casual sleepy town so don't even think about needing to dress up or make dinner reservations. Progreso is about 20 minutes and is where a few nicer restaurants, larger grocery store, and nearest cash machines are. (Get cash in Merida if you need an ATM)
Finally our hosts. Brian and Wade (plus the four well behaved chichuas) are by far the most helpful and friendly property owners/managers that we have encountered while using VRBO or similar sites. They take obvious pride in their house, the area, and Yucatan as a whole. Truly contact them before hand to help make any arrangements for your trip, including car rental, tours of the area, etc. Wade saved us on Easter week when our Merida car rental fell through and there were no other cars available in the entire city, (all over the telephone!). They made us feel like family and we can't wait to come back.
Let me start by saying, this place is one of the best I have ever stay in away from home, starting with comfortable set up around the home. Beds are both comfortable and both rooms have plenty of space, the kitchen has everything you need, just buy your groceries on your way in or you can eat at local places in Chelem or Chuburna. The beach is just steps way from your bedroom door. Wade and Brian made us feel like we were at home, they became our away from home family. Best people you can ever deal with. Our trip was for a week during Christmas 2015 and we would definitely go back, as you cannot explore and discover the whole town in a week. You cannot go wrong by renting this place, just make sure you rent a car to get around, as we did not see any public transportation. Wade thank you for your tips and around Merida and Progresso.
Thank you guys for making us feel comfortable during our stay. We will hopefully see you guys in the future.
The Lopez Family.
We booked Land's End as a last minute resort. We had to cancel our Mahahual vacation due to the incredible seaweed invasion Mexico's Caribbean Coast is experiencing this Summer. Talk about SERENDIPITY! We did not know it at the time, but the BEST house on the Yucatan Coast just happened to be available for our family vacation. Brian and Wade welcomed our family with opened arms...all of our family including our 2 Cocker Spaniels. Our hosts kindly considered our unique situation and put their "no pet" policy aside - forever enduring them in our hearts.
As for the house, it is as beautiful as the photos depict. We walked our dogs up and down the beach in both directions and I can assure you Land's End has the best section of this beach. Although we were not on a Caribbean beach, the Gulf beaches are beautiful too. The water is clean and many shades of green. The house gardens and pool area are brilliantly landscaped and pristinely maintained. We had trouble choosing between a day at the beach or a day poolside!
We are a family who cooks most meals at home so we put rental kitchens to the test. This kitchen had everything we needed. We did get out for a couple meals and spent both of them at La Playa which was suggested by our hosts. Fabulous ceviche and guajillo shrimp. Had it been up to me, we would have had dinner there every night. Something else needs to be mentioned that makes this rental so unique... A WASHER AND DRYER! Now, I did not want to do laundry on my vacation, but it sure was nice to launder the kids' swimsuits mid-week and not have to hand wash them in the kitchen sink. This earns Land's End the "Vacationing Moms" award!
We had some small issues with internet speed and electricity (always an issue no matter where you go on the Peninsula) but not enough to make a difference. I was actually glad dad and the kids had to put their iPads away for a while.
At first, I was worried that because this property was so upscale it might not be a good "family" rental, but more for couples who eat out or older, quieter families. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised by the house itself and our warm, wonderful hosts. I never felt like I had to tell our kids to be quiet around the pool or police my pets around the gardens. Wade and Brain told me to relax and make the home our own. Thanks guys, for creating a spectacular vacation rental and for a stress-free, family vacation. The Gaitan Family will see you next year!
The house was amazing and decorated beautifully, it had everything you need, and the ac was appreciated but only needed at night when you closed the windows. The view was unreal. I have rented several houses in this area and I have to say that I felt the safest, had the most beach exclusivity, the best internet when I need to work and had complete privacy downstairs.
Furthermore, Wade and Brian will be life long friends. I discovered a town that I soon plan to call home and they are a big part of that. They had a car delivered, let us know the best places to eat, I felt very welcomed and at home, I could even use their washer so we could stay another week!
Only word of advice is, pick up groceries on your way in as stores in Chelem are limited!
The pictures of this beautiful home doesn't do justice for the paradise you stay in. Everything in the house is as described and it is well maintained. The house is absolutely gorgeous and the it's location on the beach is a hidden, relaxing oasis. We enjoyed the pool as well and it was nice to have pool floats available. You are about 25 minutes from Paseo de Montejo in Merida and about 10 minutes from Progreso. We rented a car so we were able to explore but the beach right in front of the house was absolutely the best and our favorite compared to the others we visited within the area.Wade & Brian were very welcoming, friendly and were available for any questions or needs that arose. They provided excellent customer service & gave us recommendations of where to eat.Taco Maya is a must for a meal! My family loved & enjoyed their stay. We would return within a heart beat.
