We had a good time - cabin was very near Moose Lake and Banning State Parks for hiking excursions and Munger trail too.
We rated it as good because the cabin had food in the fridge, was pretty close to two other cabins and lacked any info on cabin usage or clean up protocol.
The location along the Kettle river was very nice - the swing over looking is a great touch!
My husband and I stayed at the cabin for a long weekend the middle of October. The setting and scenery was breathtaking as the it was the height of the fall colors. We got off to a rocky start as the keys were not in location stated on our email. A phone call to the out of state owner got us keys in about 30 minutes. Cabin is neat and comfortable. We knew there was no TV so brought some reading material and DVDs along. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and spices, we grilled out every night and enjoyed being able to "eat in" for most meals. The fireplace also came in handy as the nights got cool. Thanks for the ample supply of wood. Our main purpose was to ride our bikes. The Munger Trail about 100 yards from the cabin is terrific, paved and level. The first day we rode in to Moose Lake and had lunch at great little sandwich coffee shop called Jitter Joes or something like that. We rode daily and enjoyed it very much. We would certainly consider returning for another stay, but would recommend that a better key system be found. We were careful about leaving key where told, but were called a week and a half after our stay because again the key was missing. Maybe a coded lockbox? All in all a good experience
Our stay at this cabin targeted the canoeing on the Kettle River, but since the water was so high [Class 2 areas were 5s, and Class 3 areas were Class 5] and we had a novice canoeist, we needed to find other diversions. WE: rode our bikes down the Munger Trail to "The Corral" for sodas and back; had a beautiful bonfire; took our canoe over to Dago Lake for canoe survival training [swamp the canoe, get back in and naviagate to shore] in the nice, clear, sandy-bottom lake; shopped, had ice-cream and watched fireworks in Moose Lake; scouted out some grouse hunting locations for future trips. The kitchen in this rental had fantastic cookware, utensils and spices. Our only complaint would be that some of the screens [sliding doors] were compromised [i.e., loose at the bottom] and let in the mosquitoes in [of course this is a bumper crop year for mosquitoes, too which also contributed to skipping the canoeing / portaging/ launching through the wooded stretches of the Kettle RIver]. A previous guest mentioned the audio not working on the DVD player, but my husband got it to work. A great cabin in a geat and nearby location.
Stayed here Memorial Day weekend...a great getaway not far from the Twin Cities and the price was right. Very peaceful area with many activities available within a short distance. Didn't have any luck fishing, but that probably has more to do with my skills or lack thereof. Wish I owned an ATV as there are many trails in the nearby state forest. I don't think you could see them all in one weekend. As others have said, the kitchen has pretty much everything you need. I'd suggest bringing your own drinking water as the well water had quite a bit of rust in it...seemed to eventually clear up with use though. All in all, I'd very much recommend it and would like to go back again.
We loved vacationing in this cabin with our 2 young children! It was nice and cozy. Very clean and had all the amenities you could ask for in the kitchen! Fireplace was very nice and so was the fire pit outside. Dogs are allowed outside and our dog loved running around the big yard. Directions from the owner were great, just beware that there's no sign at the end of that driveway with the address on it! We couldn't get the volume to work on the DVD player, but other than that everything was wonderful. Very nice price and a great place to stay. We will be back again!
We stayed eight nights at the cabin and had a great trip. We brought our bicycles, fishing and hunting gear. You can rent a boat from Sand Lake resort, very reasonable and located just north of Sturgeon Lake, lots of great fishing. Great grouse hunting trails in General Andrews State Forest with parking and easy access 1/2 mi. away, there are also three WMA's ( Wildlife Management Areas) close by for additional public hunting. The Willard Munger state trail is about 30 yards from the cabin and is paved, on a few occasions we rode our bike's 2.5 mi. to Willow River and ate breakfast at Peggy Sue's Cafe. Lot's of bird watching, great fires, and very peaceful. You can hear owls and coyote during the night, then Sandhill Cranes, Blue Jays, Raven and woodpeckers during the daytime. The beds are very comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows provided, easy to use appliances and fully equipped kitchen and lots of kitchen counter space. We enjoyed our stay here and will definately rent again.
