Beautiful one level home with a pool and newly added air conditioning in a great neighborhood

This is the second time we've stayed at the house. The house has been updated in the kitchen and all around the house with air conditioning. The house is on a single level which is a nice plus. The neighborhood is situated on a golf course but is only 5 minutes away from the local beach. There is also several shopping villages located near by and many attractions such as Poipu Beach, Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Garden. With the pool in the back yard as well as an outdoor dining area and a BBQ you can enjoy just staying at the house.

We loved our stay!!

This home was perfect for our family of 6. It’s in a beautiful neighborhood only a short way to Poipu Beach. The beds were very comfortable and the house had plenty of space. The pool was the perfect temperature in July. The landscaper and pool man were super and made us feel at home. The owners were available as needed and made it all very easy.

We stay at a lot of rental homes on our vacations and this is one of the best. Enjoy Kauai!!

Dated but convenient

First the pros! The home is a phenominal floor plan with bedrooms down one wing and all the living areas opposite. We were with our two daughters, their husbands, and two grand babies. The bedrooms were really large all with air conditioning units that worked exceptionally well. The beds were all very comfortable but to be honest, the foam overlays were almost too squishy. The mattresses were very comfortable on their own. The kitchen was well stocked, and the laundry location and garage were wonderful to have.

Now the cons. The pool was absolutely freezing!! I had even inquired beforehand. We paid so much more for a house with a pool for specifically the babies to use and they were miserable. We ended up going to Walmart and buying and blowing up a pool and filling it with warm water every day. There were several previous comments made about the surface being rough around the pool and it really is. We were told it had been fixed but not even close.

There was a neighbor behind this house that acts like Big Brother. She reports each and every violation. We welcomed our kids from a late flight inside our home at 12:30am but without realizing it we had not closed one window and we were reminded at 8 the next morning about the noise restrictions. We had no music going, just quiet conversation while we got the 12 month ready for bed.

On New Years we set off a small string of firecrackers at 9:10 pm in the yard (because many if the other neighbors were doing the same thing until much later) that lasted 3 minutes and 4 seconds because we have it recorded. By 9 am we received yet another call about our behaviour. We respect that this is a residential neighbourhood and people are working and that there are rules for a reason but in both of the scenarios it was ridiculous!!!

One other thing that we had to address was that the H2O tank had been set to only provide hot water for a small window each morning. We had to shower in ice cold showers for the first 3.days until we changed the setting. To pay as much as we paid, to have hot water restricted is unacceptable.

We went out and bought two high end beach chairs and beach toys as there were only 4 ratty old chairs that were rusty and uncomfortable of which one broke the first day. At the very least I think an inventory of 6 Tommy Bahama chairs a few straw beach matts and some pool toys would and should be a standard that owner & Garden Island Rentals should make sure that each family has.

Not a luxury experience

Immediately upon entering the home we are faced with the reality that there is no air conditioning. There are cheap fans in most rooms to offset the stuffiness. I am from the mainland south and this came as quite a shock. Admittedly this was my fault as A/C is not mentioned as an amenity. Not knowing about Kauai's energy costs again was my shortcoming. We have been accustomed to expect certain basics in renting a "luxury " home in an upscale golf community. I felt as though it should have been disclosed to the unassuming traveler. Second the refrigerator did not work at all during our entire rental. We complained to the property management company and were treated with disdain, disrespect, pushback, blame etc. When something of this nature is reported it should be handled immediately with empathy and understanding. Not the case. Garden Island Rentals, specifically, Jenny, was uncaring and hateful during the entire unfortunate ordeal. One rents a home with an appraised value of over one million dollars and are told to go get coolers. Unacceptable. The insolence dealt toward my family by the agent of Garden Island Rentals was beyond anything we have ever experienced when renting vacation property. We have travelled all over the globe and never been treated with such disrespect. To their credit we did brainstorm the problem and offered up a solution which was to rent a refrigerator from a local company. There again was much resistance but it was delivered and installed in the garage. We were told a part had to be ordered but that was long after we were told to "just close the door for 24 hours". Third, the luxury bedding you are led to believe you will have is nothing more than cheap mattresses and foam toppers, also disclosed in another review. In summary, We threw away many hundreds of dollars worth of food and reimbursed a fraction of the purchase price. Trying to be fair, we only proposed reimbursement of $300 for the food but the owner somehow determined that his fair assessment of our financial loss was worth only $200. The home is in an excellent location for activities and the pool was an asset other than the deck needed sealing. There are serious faults with Garden Island Rentals so don't expect too much assistance if you have a problem. Owner Michael could have and should have been more hands on during this rental but seemed to let the rental agency (Jenny) deal with the refrigerator issue in any manner they chose. Buyer beware

Vermieter-Kommentar: This trip we have addressed every concern to make the home look its finest. Now 50" TVs in both the master and living room (TVs in all bedrooms), now all bedrooms have new mattresses with toppers for added comfort (master bedroom Cal King had already been recently replaced), Pool area, rear patio and driveway FuturaStone has been resealed, and any other items deemed necessary. We have been using the refrigerator as well as the additional refrigerator that is in the garage. The built in Sub Zero 48" refrigerator costs approx. $12,000 to replace and still in process of being repaired (approx. $2500.00 to repair). Parts are ordered, unfortunately taking a longer time to repair or replace on Kaua'i island as compared to the mainland - hopefully finished this week. I sympathized that you had the refrigerator problem, I wanted to be fair, not everything would spoil ($300 seemed like of food to spoil in a refrigerator, at first $600.00 was requested), I never asked for receipts, I thought $200.00 reimbursement was reasonable and fair for your trouble. I also felt sorry that so much time was devoted to the refrigerator on your Kaua'i trip even after an additional one was brought over. I had also arranged with Lappert's Ice Cream Parlor a $50.00 gift card to take out you and your family. I called and left 2 messages however you didn't return my calls. When my wife and I arrived, the gift card was still at Lappert's so we enjoyed it. I wasn't part of your conversations with Garden Island Rentals. I spoke with Jenny today (it wasn't her who you were speaking with) she said that she only spoke with you one time. I understand that the owner himself (Louis) was very helpful and brought over the additional refrigerator. We have always had a good relationship with Garden Island Rentals since 2010 and I had mentioned that I didn't want to hurt our relationship over a refrigerator, and another refrigerator had already been brought to you by the time you spoke with me. I do hope that you and your family will plan to come back in the future to Kaua'i and our home and have a great time.

WE LOVE KAUAI!!!! Wow what an amazing island!

We booked this house because it fit our family without the need to book two hotel rooms and we had our own pool! The location was excellent and very close to Poipu beach. The home had ample space and was equipped with most items needed etc. We arrived on a Saturday and unfortunately the pool was lined with plant debris and dead bugs...of coarse we called to see if someone would come clean it but we ended up not being able to use it until Monday night after the weekly pool cleaner came by. Then a few days later a dead baby chicken floating around...so much for our own pool. Just a heads up to future renters the 10PM quite time is extremely strict. We were out on the back lanai chatting..and being very quite....Come to find out the house across the street had music blasting and tons of laughing etc..The lady behind ended up yelling at us to go in the house then decided to complain to the Home Owners Association..Honestly didn't spend that much time at the house after that Super Sad that we had to pay over $5000 in 10 days just to sleep. Next time we will choose to have a hotel with a for sure clean pool and our rooms cleaned for us every morning.

Vermieter-Kommentar: I truly hope that you and your family enjoyed your stay - you and your family should have the greatest time every time you come to Kaua'i At the home there are papaya trees, star fruits, lemon, tangerines and haden mango (when ripe the chickens usually come to eat the fruit that drops to the ground). Sorry for any misunderstanding - 10 pm is quiet time - all the more difficult to be quiet outside after 10 pm with a family of 8 people (6 children).
