The apartment was comfortable and had plenty of room for two people. It was well supplied with everything we needed. The location suited us. It is close to the main shopping street yet far enough away so that it is very quiet at night. It's an easy walk to the LIRR train station and a 35 minute ride to downtown Manhattan. Amy was always available to answer our questions. We enjoyed our stay.
Great location - easy to train and to get around the area via car.
Very cute, spacious apartment with a lot of charm!
Amy was extremely helpful and always available if I had a question. After living in manhattan for 2 years, this was the best experience I've had. If I ever move back I would choose to live in an apartment in this building! So quiet, peaceful, and in an amazing neighborhood. It truly changed my views on NYC living.
Pretty and charming, with a few quirks
This was my first VRBO stay ever, and I've waited until now to write my review because I wanted to have a better basis for fair comparison.
Amy accommodated requests courteously and efficiently. She really knows her place well---it's clear that she's cared for and loved it for many years. She provided a house manual in the kitchen that I found very informative, including tips on the neighborhood and things to do.
The space itself was spotlessly clean and decorated beautifully and boldly. The décor of each room has been given the kind of individual thought and attention that manages to make the whole look effortless. I felt sophisticated just staying there! Extra towels, sheets, and toiletries were thoughtfully provided, and the kitchen was fully equipped. The WiFi was strong and totally reliable, and the presence of a separate study was a bonus. The neighborhood is quiet, though occasionally I could hear the occupants of the downstairs unit.
Why not five stars? Three reasons: difficulty of access, lack of temperature control, and a mold smell after rains.
First, yes, it's got a ground-floor entry. But it immediately faces you into a set of curving stairs. These make a tight turn, and they feel a bit steep. It's not necessarily unusual for a vintage building (and one could say the stairs add to the charm!), but it does reduce the unit's accessibility, especially with heavy or bulky luggage. Definitely something easier to work around if you know about it in advance.
Second, the temperature for the unit (and all other units in the building) cannot be changed. Personally, I always found evenings and nights a bit cold during my wintertime stay. Extra blankets were provided, so comfortable sleeping was not an issue; I just didn't enjoy evening time in the unit as much.
Third, after it rained for most of one day, for most of the next day, the unit smelled strongly of mold. I hadn't left any windows open or anything, so it was probably more a structural issue with it being an older building. But it was still a bit off-putting.
Would I consider another stay? Yes, especially in the warmer (and drier?) months. It was very attractive and clean, and I'm not someone who minds a longer commute into Manhattan. There are good eats and a very good yoga and massage studio (Three Elements), all within easy walking distance. Plus, parking around the building is a breeze, especially by NYC standards.
Fabulous place ! True home away from home. Spotless clean and looks exactly as on the pictures.
My son And I came to New York for the US Open. Amy's house was exactly what we were looking for. It is in the quiet, safe, residential area, very close to the train station, supermarket, restaurants and a park. So it was very nice to relax there after busy day at the US Open and after all day shopping in Manhattan. Thank you Amy for sharing your home with us.
perfect place to stay in bayside short term or long term
The place was exactly how it was described. 10 minute walk from the LIRR and 20 minutes to penn station, and 1 block from main street filled with shops, cafes, and restaurants. The place was clean and the air conditioning was fully functional. I would highly recommend this place if you need to be in bayside for any reason - I stayed for the month and was completely satisfied! Amy was easy to reach but I had no problems for my entire stay
