Relaxing Retreat That Felt Like Home
I can't imagine a better home base from which to explore Shelter Island, as well as to journey to and from the North and South Forks of Long Island. Inside, we found every comfort imaginable. And outside, the back deck was our respite - a perfect place to relax with the dog after a day of adventuring.
Thanks, Lynne, for being so responsive...and for allowing us to have exactly the home we needed while exploring the "East End."
You are welcome and I agree. It is a great place to explore the surroundings. I still bike to the Hamptons or to the North Fork. Or you can drive!
Spring Break Getaway!
This was the best family friendly home to stay at! Beautiful well stocked home, kayaks were a hit, dogs and kids alike were so happy! Great location too. Very happy and comforting here. We will definitely be back! Thank you!
I am so glad you liked it. And I agree, the kayaks are a wonderful way to see the island.
I hope Lynne let's us come back next year!
You can return any time. I love it too.
We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable old farmhouse, where the AC works well and the updated and well stocked kitchen makes cooking easy. Especially nice for relaxing is the large deck overlooking a lovely yard. Shelter Island has an unusually remote feel to it, but that’s what gives it such charm and if you are seeking peace and quiet, this is a wonderful place to unwind.
Thank you for your comments. Shelter Island is a special place and I am glad you enjoyed it. Come back anytime! Lynne
Lovely old house is a great place to relax and enjoy the island
To begin, Shelter Island is one of our favorite places on earth, combining cool green woods with beautiful sandy beaches, and (despite more Hamptons types moving in every year), still very slow-paced and low-key. The ferry ride to the island lasts only minutes, but in that short time you can feel your stress draining away. We've rented this old farmhouse for a second year in a row, and love the location on a quiet dead-end street. Best part is the large back porch, shaded by old trees, that overlooks a grassy lawn and a pond where you can hear the bullfrogs at night. We pretty much live out there when the weather allows, but inside is nice too--not fancy, but cozy and comfortable, nicely renovated, with all needed supplies, entertainment system, loads of books to read, central A/C, etc. The downstairs trundle bed is a bit creaky, but that only matters if you have a full house. Otherwise, the perfect place for a relaxed and relaxing stay on the island.
Thank you. That was lovely. Come back anytime.
A lovely, cozy cottage.
On a quiet street, the home has everything needed for a nice stay on Shelter Island. We especially enjoy the large back patio and the greatly stocked kitchen. The home is cute, clean, and charming. It is well located and we have stayed at the property several times. The owner is fabulous to work with.
