Beautiful and serene stay
Just returned from our family vacation where we stayed at Casa RevAda. And we just loved it! The house is charming and fully stocked for cooking and doing laundry on site. We were within walking distance from Cafe Coyote, which was indispensible for booking quads, arranging cab rides and getting advice on good local rates for excursions, not to mention the great delicious food that’s made with love by Jenny (she’s an absolute gem!).
When at the house, we enjoyed watching the many birds, agoutis, lizards and even the odd land crabs, frogs and toads at night. You can hear and sometimes see howler monkeys too!
The garden boasts many flowers and fruits which attract humming birds and butterflies - hibiscus, red ginger flowers, banana trees (nice for a fresh breakfast and snacks!) and even star fruits.
You can walk down to the beach or to the Cabo Blanco nature reserve (2km). As well, there are two small grocery stores and a bakery nearby. The bar Pirates del Celage is also close and has unlimited use of the pool if you buy any drink, and quickly became a favourite hangout.
The area is beautiful, the people friendly and there’s much to do. Of course you can also choose to simply relax and watch wildlife and its rythms throughout the day, which Casa RevAda is the perfect spot to do it from.
Had a great time here!
GREAT place to stay. Clean, comfortable, with lots of outdoor space. There is so much to do around Cabuya. We did lots of hiking and beaching, only wish we could have stayed longer!
So nice to have met you both, hope to see you again sometime soon!
Rural village--convenient, picturesque and safe location
I've stayed at Casa RevAda in the past. It's lovely, well equipped and very comfortable. I'm impressed with how the owner keeps the property maintained and upgraded both inside and outside. The owner and property manager are very helpful. In Cabuya, you can relax immersed in the real Costa Rica, then enjoy the entertainment and nightlife in neighboring towns including live music, events, fire dancers, vegetable markets, bars and a variety of restaurants. You don't need a car, yet with a car you can travel further from Cabuya into beautiful mountains and other beaches for day trips. It's always an adventure.
The property and tree house are beautiful, but it's too hot for man or beast at this property.
I felt like I was in an episode of naked and afraid. It was my anniversary, and we ended up leaving the property because it was just too hot. My wife the dog and I were are laying on the tile floor under the only decent fan watering ourselves down because we were so hot. We stayed only three days of a planned 12 days. The stairs in the cabins are dangerous. It is slab wood, sanded down and and then treated with a clear varnish. So slippery I fell on them twice. Once having to catch myself with an arm I just (4wks ago) had surgery on. My dog had such a hard time with the stairs and slipping we ended up blocking the stairs so she wouldn't get hurt. And we lost half our money because we cancelled and left.
It's truly unfortunate that you had an unpleasant experience at our property. Other guests have stayed during the same time frame who never mentioned their discomfort with the heat. I assumed you were more aware of the climate when you inquired about your stay. Perhaps with the priority in booking our property the day you wanted to arrive, the climate of the area was not your first concern. It's true that end of April can be very hot in the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula. With your review I will mention the heat during the end of the dry season (end of April and first of May) to future guests who are interested in staying during that time frame. The stairs have never been a safety issue with us or with prior guests, which included many who had children and pets. It's quite a surprise that the stairs were such a problem as this was never mentioned to me during our correspondence. Since the only issue you mentioned to me was your discomfort being a result of the weather (which is out of our control), I was unable to offer a more generous refund. All our prior reviews have been 5 stars out of 5. Please accept my apologies regarding your dissatisfaction as we try to address questions and concerns of all guests with the utmost care and sensitivity.
This is perhaps the most well equipped kitchen I have seen in a home away, which we appreciated very much. Beyond that, the property was beautiful and in a quiet (relatively dust free) location. It is located between Montezuma and Santa Teresa and we found it convenient to visit both destinations. I saw Howler Monkeys from the house 75% of the days and a large iguana visited us every day. The house is very cool and I spent a bit of time just admiring the woodwork and decoration. We spent a great deal of time in the hammocks on the porch. The property owner and the property manager are extremely responsive, no matter what you may need. My daughter even went over to the property manager's house to play with her niece one day, which was very helpful.
If I was forced to list a negative I would say that there is not much tourist infrastructure in Cabuya itsel. What is there for restaurants and grocery stores are more expensive when compared to many other parts of Costa Rica (still cheaper than the U.S. however). This extra cost is surely because of how remote you are. It costs money to get things our to Cabuya, and this is a big part of the allure in the first place. The bakery in town is excellent. Very good food and delicious smoothies. My daughter fell in love with the decadent banana and chocolate smoothing with milk. We also enjoyed the soda across from the grocery store, though I don't remember the name of it.
We found many beaches to enjoy very close to the property (including one that is COVERED in hermit crabs around sunset...it is between Montezuma and Cabuya, between the first and second bridges). One cool thing about this area is the degree of variation between the local beaches. There is nice smooth sand beaches, smooth gravel, crushed shells and rocks....it is all there. Big waves, little waves, you get the idea. Now, just book this place and go enjoy the very south of the Nicoya Peninsula!
Such a great place! The house is beautiful and the area offers so many fun things to do. My 6 year old boy and I stayed for 12 nights and it was the perfect vacation. I love the simple charm of the house and Cabuya itself is such a welcoming place as well. We had no problems with the house, it is well maintained and everything works fine. It stays cool enough at night with the fans and windows to get a comfortable sleep and it is a very safe feeling home. I would recommend a vehicle as walking to the stores, resteraunts and beaches gets to be a bit much in the heat, especially with kids. We rented an ATV through Jenny at the Coyote Cafe and that was perfect for the two of us. We did many day trips across to Mal Pais and To Montezuma with the ATV, it's the ideal vehicle to have in that area. There are many great places to eat in the area, I can honestly say that I didn't have a meal down there that was anything less than fantastic. The locals are very friendly and know how to cook! We loved walking down to the beach in the evening and watching the thousands of hermit crabs running around. There are plenty of good swimming spots both at high and low tide between Cabuya and Montezuma, you just have look for them and you can find an ideal place to hang out in all conditions. If your looking for good surf, head over to Mal Pais. It's super consistant and has waves to suit all skill levels. All in all this was a perfect trip and a perfect place to stay. Stephanie was super helpful leading up to the trip and Jenny at the Coyote is an absolute gem as well! i can't wait to go back, and I will be back for sure!
