What a place

  • 5 von 5

I must say thank you so very much to Adrian. Your home is just splendid (unfortunately we could only stay for two nights). It was very difficult to find but boy was it worth it. The location left us feeling like we were the only persons within miles, the view of the ocean and forest was amazing and the home itself was like a mansion after three nights in a hostel. The private pool and open air living was the highlight of our trip but having a pristine beach filled with scarlet macaws, monkeys, raccoons and ant eaters was a close second.

New Years Eve at Martinas bar (20 minutes drive towards Puerto Jiminez) and a hike to the waterfall on the beach were awesome, visit each. Oh, I would like to mention a new #1 highlight and that would be our chef Grace who cooked the most amazing food for us for two days, thank you so much. (You must bring your own food and town is 45 minutes away). So in closing, worth every penny to stay here. There were four adults in our party, room for 12 though.

Little piece of paradise

  • 4 von 5

Staying in this wonderful house was an experience we'll remember forever. A large and open house with a lovely pool, right in the heart of the forest. And the caretakers, Grace and Juan, really made it special - Grace's cooking was a real treat and nice not to have to cook for ourselves all the time, and Juan was a great guide to the forest nearby. (We asked Adrian for a shopping list before we went which was helpful - and might be a good thing to provide to all guests)

There is lots of wildlife walking right by the house - we saw a laughing falcon take a (harmless) snake just below the house, a Tayra climbing a tree, macaws, toucans and lots of hummingbirds and butterflies - even a turtle on the beach!

Some of the fixtures and fittings (window latches, wardrobe doors) have taken a little bit of a beating from the jungle, but more than compensated for by the wonderful surroundings. And you should be aware that the sound of the ocean can be quite loud, which didn't bother us - but might be a consideration for others.

I'd recommend a visit to Estacion Piro just up the road, and ask Juan to take you to the other part of Adrian's estate - which you might not find by yourself and contains some amazing trees.

Really a nature lovers paradise and the pool was a real treat.

A Spring Break to Remember - Where the Jungle meets the Sea

  • 5 von 5

My 12 year old son and I and another family of 4 (2 boys aged 12 and 9) had the most wonderful vacation at this house this past Spring Break. The house is spacious and comfortable, perched high above a wild stretch of Pacific coast. It feels luxurious in an authentic Costa Rican way. It's hard to know where to start. We packed a lot into each day and yet felt totally relaxed and rested when we got home. We hired a wonderful local guide, Nito, to hike both on and near this property and in Corcovado. He made our trip. Not only did we see a lot more than we would have without him, he had a vast knowledge of the ecology of the area and the kids and adults learned a lot. He has also perfected the art of taking a photo with an iPhone 6 through the lens of his swarovsky telescope. I have great photos! Things I recommend: Get up before dawn to catch sunrise and animals on the beach; take a glass of wine down to the beach at sunset (this is NOT a swimming beach. It is beautiful and wild and very powerful so always watch the kids); ask Grace to cook local dishes; ask Juan to take you on a night hike (we had an encounter with a Fer-de-lance that the kids will remember for life ;=); hire a local fisherman to take you out on Golfo Dulce to fish and get up close and personal with dolphins, go to the nearby eco lodges and enjoy cocktails and wifi once or twice, go zip lining through the forest; visit a coco plantation; sleep with the doors and windows wide open to hear the ocean and the wildlife; if you have kids or even if you don't, keep a list each day of all the birds and animals that you see and if you can't identify something look it up in the books at the house each evening. The boys really got into to doing this and argued over who was going to write them all in the owner's book to record wildlife sightings. I could go on and on. This was the perfect vacation. Family, friends, adventure, comfort, amazing wildlife and unspoiled beauty. The owner of this property was extremely helpful and his tips and advice contributed greatly to the success of our vacation. The Osa Peninsular is a very special place. My son and I can't wait to go back.

Can't wait to go back!!!

  • 5 von 5

We fell in love with this house. The pictures do not do it justice.

Open air, no bugs, gorgeous views, wonderful fresh water pool. Great drinking water right from the tap....I could go on. We enjoyed the hike down to the beach, hiking to the nearby waterfall, and spending time exploring the area. The drive from town was pretty easy but I would want to do it the first time in daylight. The cook and family that look after the place are a huge part of the appeal here. They are wonderful people and the meals were something we looked forward to every time. LOVED this place!! I'm bringing my fishing rod next time. We were a family of 5 and another couple and there was plenty of room. I love the sound of surf at night but some people might want an earplug or two and a flashlight is handy.

Wonderful tropical forest accommodations

  • 5 von 5

If you are looking for a remote but luxurious rainforest experience in Costa Rica, this is it! The house is spectacularly situated on a cliff in the rainforest of the Osa Peninsula. Stairs lead to a steep 4-minute path down to the beach. From the deck you can watch and hear huge waves breaking down below. Looks like fun but you can't swim in this stretch of the ocean because of rip-tides. Aside from the pool at the house, there are tide pools to swim in 10 minutes away on the upper beach. We have seen many beaches but this one is the most wonderfully wild and beautiful, almost untouched by humans. We were there in March and still found a number of turtle nests and even a couple of turtles. And in the early morning, we always saw a lot of other animal tracks that we then tried to identify with pretty exciting results!

As to other parts of the rain forest experience, from the deck, you can watch a pair of Macaws flying in and out of, or just hanging out in, their tree "condo" fairly close by; all four species of Costa Rican monkeys swing by regularly; an agouti and other critters snuffel and shuffle about at dawn and dusk; birds are all around the house; and a puma has reportedly ambled by the house a number of times, but not while we were there. And when you need to revert to more decadent habits, you can take a delightful dip, beer in hand, in the spring-fed pool in the middle of the compound.

The house is beautifully laid out, completely open, well decorated, and bug free (at least when we were there), so that the pretty mosquito netting around the beds was there mostly for reassurance, just in case a moth would flutter by...

The Costa Rican couple that cooks anything you want to have prepared (you provide the groceries) and takes care of all the gorgeous tropical plants and the well-maintained building on the property, is delightful and very accommodating. Some knowledge of Spanish (or charades!) is definitely helpful in communicating with them, since they speak very little English.

We took several excursions in our 4-wheel drive car we rented at the airport (yes, you do need 4-wheel drive to maneuver sometimes steep and rocky roads or driving through shallow streams!). For example, we loved eating at and exploring several lovely and close by resorts and their rainforest surroundings, and with and without a guide went bird watching. And in sit-down-and-relax moments, we read Adrian Forsyth's very engaging, entertaining, and highly informative

If You're Ready for a Remote Getaway...

  • 5 von 5

To keep it short and sweet, this was the most fantastic vacation stay we've had anywhere in the world. We had two families, 4 adults and 4 kids ranging from 5 to 13, in June of 2012. The house and surrounding lands are nothing short of exquisite, wondrous, and full of vibrant life. Javier and Luz couldn't be nicer (or more knowledgeable) and Javier took us on several fantastic hikes and swimming adventures. Getting there, well, that's half the fun, but try to arrive while it's still light out. Let's hope this little corner of the world stays as pristine and fabulous as it is now.
