Stichwort: Romantische private Luxus-Villa
Along with our two daughters we stayed for four nights at La Bagatelle. As everyone has stated, the view is spectacular. More importantly, working with Nancy, Paul, and Valinda made the stay that much more enjoyable. Special recognition to Nancy as we had a couple of challenges, caused by me, which Nancy worked through very professionally. Thank you! We've traveled to the islands in the Caribbean more than 15 times and this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and one of our most enjoyable. Need to emphasize the value in this villa as Valinda will shop and prepare (or at least assist in prep) any/all/most meals. She made us a fish creole which was out of site! I think I read where someone said the kitchen was outdated. That's bunk. The kitchen is fine. House is great. Took a day to get used to as our living room is wide open! Couple of highlights:
Transportation-Nancy recommends Popo and so do I. My wife wanted to bring him home with us. Great guy, patient(remember, I was with 2 daughters and a wife.....), knowledgable, and knows EVERYONE. We used him once a day which was cheaper than a car rental. Plus the peace of mind not driving on St. L roads and in town. As Nancy states in description the road is rough and narrow. Hence, my reasoning for letting Popo do the driving.
Excursions--We walked to the Anse Chastenet beach...it's a solid 15 minutes DOWN ( I timed it) and 20 UP. Go to the beach on "the side" which is Anse Mamin. Quiet and has great restaurant. Highly recommend the Tet Paul trail especially at Sunset. We did Hot Chocolate tour. Hiked the Gros Piton. Don't be fooled, it's 25% hike and 75% climb. Beautiful once your up there though. Did the market on Saturday morning and picked up bananas, plantains, coconut water, and fish. Really fun to be "in town" and experience the people and culture of St. Lucia
Overall, we had a great experience with the people and property and would definitely recommend this to others.
Our family stayed at the Bagatelle Villa for our daughter's wedding this past March, and found the villa to be amazing with the most beautiful view of the Pitons and Caribbean!! We never tired of the view!!! Seeing the glow of the sunrise, and hearing the birds in the morning was paradise!! We saw several rainbows during our stay, -magical! The staff at the Bagatelle were so helpful and prepared some delicious dishes. One morning we walked down to the village and bought fresh caught Mahi Mahi (Dorado) which the ladies prepared for us...Incredible!
The owner of the villa, Nancy, did everything to make our stay wonderful! From the time we booked our stay to the day we left, she was available to recommend restaurants, and even communicated with the locals to ensure we were taken care of! She went above and beyond to make our stay there memorable!
One of our favorite people we spent time with there was Popo, our driver!!! The terrain is a bit challenging, and we were not comfortable driving (on the opposite side of the road) so Popo drove us everywhere!! What a kind man!! I would highly recommend you call on him whenever you need to go anywhere! He did an amazing job, and everyone knows him!
If you are looking for a private villa, and want to relax and truly get away from the hustle and bustle, then the Bagatelle Villa is the perfect vacation get away! We highly recommend it!
La Bagatelle is a beautifully decorated villa with amazing view of the Pitons and the steady stream of sailcraft going by. We always tried to be back from the beach by 5:30, as the sunsets are spectacular!! It is advised that you review and make selections from the menu of food the housekeeper/cook can provide you with, so your first few days of meals are taken care of. Also, shopping at the supermarket on the way from the airport is recommended, as they have a large selection of meats, not always as available in town. The town of Soufriere is enjoyable and very safe, with street shopping for fresh fruit/vegetables and the best in-town grocery is Eroline. They also have a good selection of wine. The local people are friendly and helpful. Saturday morning market (you should get there by 8:30)is great and you can purchase fresh of-the -boat fish there. For confident drivers, renting a 4x4 is highly recommended, as the walk to and from the beach would be difficult for most. There are lots of things to see and do, including the botanical gardens/waterfall/mineral bath, which was our favourite. However, we are beach people and once we discovered Anse Mamin (a ten min walk from the main Anse Chastenet beach), we had found a slice of paradise: a 200 to 300 yd stretch of beach, with usually only 30 to 40 people there. Although isolated, it has beach side bar and grill and umbrella/loungers are readily available for much less than the main beach or Sugar Beach. Nancy, the owner, is very good at making you feel welcome and is very attentive to your needs. Paul, the maintenance man and Valinda, the housekeeper/cook are very friendly and willing; you will be well taken care of by them. We have been to many many sun destinations; by far and away this was our favourite!!! We will return!!!
As advertised, the view of the Pitons and the ocean are wonderful. Sit and watch hummingbirds, grey tremblers, etc work the trees and flowers. At night, watch the sun set and the "glowing" click beetles come out. For first time visitors to St. Lucia, note that all walking involves some very steep roads/paths. Anse Chastanet is close by, but it is a hard walk; rent a car to get around and make trips to the waterfalls, town and other nearby attractions. Do not be put off by needing to use a vehicle; Anse Chastenet and Sugar Beach resorts provide on-site shuttles for their guests due to the steepness of the roads/paths.
La Bagatelle is a well-maintained villa. Kitchen is dated, but everything works. Beds are very comfortable. Pool is nice. Note: there is no air-conditioning. Not a problem for us, there are ceiling fans and trade winds. We are not accustomed to having a housekeeper on-site from 9 am till 3 pm. The housekeeper was not intrusive, but it made us feel awkward to be sitting around as someone did chores in the villa.
First visit to St. Lucia and La Bagatelle filled the bill! Situated about 450 feet above the water and with an unsurpassed view of the Pitons, the house is accurately depicted here and is an upside down house with open air living area above and bedrooms below. Spent many hours watching the rainbows, passing cruise ships, fishermen, yachts and hummingbirds feeding on bouganvilli a. Less than a mile to Anse Chastanet where one can swim, sunbathe, dine, dive, and snorkel. Suggest renting a car at the airport, ours was from Cool Breeze. Much to explore on St. Lucia; we especially enjoyed Diamond Falls with its botanical gardens. Staff very nice and owner who lives nearby checked with us to ensure no concerns. House beautifully furnished with original local furniture and paintings. Lovely pool with plenty of places where one could read or doze. Almost no bugs at this time. Generally quiet.
We were NOT disappointed with this lovely villa at all.... the pictures are accurate and the view is absolutely gorgeous! The villa is very clean , and well maintained. The open air living was a new experience for us ! The villa is spacious and comfortable for 2 couples, as we celebrating a special birthday with our friends! We didn't rent a car, but did refer to a local taxi fellow who drove us on occasion, and was very accommodating. We attempted to walk down the very steep rough road to Anse Chastanet beach ...... I like to walk, but this is not pleasurable at all..... the return walk up was even worse.... everyone refused to walk it again.... we did take a taxi there and back.... for a cost of $ 40 US. I would advise renting a car... if u are the type that needs to be on the go... as the road to villa is treacherous.... but after a few travels u get use to it. We weren't use to or were we comfortable with the concept of having a housekeeper wait on us.... we had a starter pack of groceries provided , and settled the bill on arrival..... we also stopped at grocery store near airport to purchase a few things.... we found meat to be difficult to find.... as we are not very adventurous fish eaters... so we arrived at villa.... hoping the housekeeper could help us purchase some fresh chicken, or steak for us.... however, that proved to be difficult also... and had to settle for what she could get... in all ,it was fine as we had dinner reservations elsewhere on the weekend.... suggest to others in the future, to be specific and direct with your menu choices, and let her do the shopping.... otherwise u will be be managing on your own.
Soufriere is abit rough around the edges to venture into, for our liking. We toured the entire island and seen all the highlights by hired car tour... and also took a water taxi up the coast to Rodney bay, Castries, and Marigot bay. We also went to Sugar beach for the day.... was disappointed in most beaches, in how the resorts segregate small scuffy areas for visitors to sit at..... however we had very expensive drinks at sugar beach patio bar... and had a surprise visit of "Bono" and his family ,who arrive by yacht, and sat next to us on the patio ! So I guess those drinks were worth it ! Warning, at Anse Chastenat beach, the area they direct visitors to is sit at is dangerous due to boat traffic..... snorkelers were frequently in the way .
Great experience , and had a lovely time !
