We stayed here with 9 family members and it was perfect for us. We loved the fact that you can catch the trolley right outside-or just walk to the village, it's so close. Management was very helpful. I thought we had scheduled our arrival time correctly, but were faster than I thought. I called the office and they checked for us and we were able to check in a little early-which was very helpful. Overall, a great trip and a great place to stay with a big group. Thank you so much!
Dark , Dingy
The pictures on the website do not represent what the unit really looks like. Pictures show it light, airy and clean. It was dark dingy and dirty. Carpet was filthy, furniture is old and beat up. Unit is dark. Kitchen is tiny with practically O counter space and no cupboard space. Some may say kitchen was well stocked but what few cupboards there were were so full of owners things we had to keep all our non perishable
Food in grocery bags in living room. The heating did work correctly unlike previous complaints and surprisingly the mattress on the beds were comfortable so not everything was bad. As for the complex as a whole: when we first walked into building it also was very dark and dingy, dirty. Roof drywall on stairs had fallen all over and in 4 days no one had cleaned it up. Only 1 hot tub in whole complex was working which was in our building C so it was very crowded at times. Manager at rec room said it was nearly impossible to get things fixed, so will never stay in that
While I don’t believe this review to be fair, I feel bad the guest left unhappy. This condo is priced appropriately in our market for its size, features and condition (including the furniture). If you are looking for a high end property, we offer those as well, they are priced accordingly. If you have any questions about this, or any condo you are considering, please call our office toll free at 866 Mammoth. We have staff available by phone or email, 7 days/week, 9am-8pm (pacific) to ensure you book exactly the property you want.
Unfortunately, this guest never contacted our office to give us an opportunity to discuss or correct any of these issues. Had this guest called us, we would have sent a cleaning crew to address the carpet if possible. We could have packed and removed items from the cabinets to accommodate them as well.
The pictures are absolutely true to the unit. The only difference is lighting, (the photos were taken in summer/the guest stayed during a winter of record snowfall). The unit was dark during their stay because the building was completely covered in snow, which is what happens in Mammoth when we receive 60+ feet of snow. All our homes become dark, its a fact of mountain living.
The hot tubs and general condition of the building are not in our control, however this past winter was very hard on all the complex maintenance staff’s in Mammoth and not indicative of their normal performance.
When traveling to Mammoth and staying in any vacation rental it is helpful to understand the relationship your vacation rental manager has to the property. The VR manager you book with has a contract with the owner of the individual condo, and is responsible for the studs-in portion of the condo (interior only) while the complex usually has its own maintenance staff (paid for by the Homeowner's Association) who is responsible for the studs-out (or anything exterior to the condo you booked). This means that every condo in Mammoth may be managed by different companies, and regardless of which manager you book through, none of us have any control over the hot tubs. You access amenities (such as hot tubs) etc. effectively as guests of the owner, and we have no control or information about outages, etc. We are happy to work to press them to correct problems when they occur, and we maintain good relationships with the HOA managers in town, but we are not in control, and the person this guest spoke to does not work for, nor speak for us.
DOES NOT HAVE CENTRAL HEATING
RENTER BEWARE: THIS PLACE DOES NOT HAVE CENTRAL HEATING AND IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THAT IN THE PICTURES. If I could, I would give it 0 stars. I had the worst experience dealing with Jesse and Jason. I walked in to a cold house with the only option of heating was a small fireplace, 4 in-wall electric heaters (only 2 worked) and 3 space heaters (1 of which had a melted electrical plug already and didn't work) that could not all be plugged in at the same time because it would trip the electrical fuse in the house which was having issues. You could only use the microwave or heaters at a time, therefore you could either try to stay warm, or try to have warm food. Jason is a dishonest person and lacks customer service skills. He spoke to me during the 4.5 hours we were in that house trying to warm it up and told me he is a manager. When he spoke to my friend, he told her that he is the owner and repeated himself 3 times. Luckily, this was on speaker phone and when I confronted him about being an owner, he quickly changed his tune and called himself the booking agent. He kept on mentioning that "hot-air rises" so I took Jesse and Steve (the electrician) upstairs to show that the upstairs portion of the house was cold, even after 3 hours of the fireplace being on. As I mentioned earlier, only 2 of the in-wall heaters worked; one in the main living area, and one in the big bedroom downstairs. The other two rooms had non-functioning heaters. Jason kept telling me that for Mammoth residents, the house was considered warm. That is like me telling someone visiting Los Angeles in the dead of summer, that a 90 degree house is considered normal for LA residents. He also told me, that when booking next time, I should ask if the place has central heating since 'I seem to be a savvy traveller' because the description doesn't mention that. That is like saying since we didn't mention "hot and running water" in the description that the place would be lacking those 'features'. Apparently "heated home" is a feature of this house. Mammoth Luxury rental is anything but a luxury rental place, they should rename the business to Mammoth Shyster's group. Homeaway was no help in resolving the issue. I will be using their competition to book next time.
Did I mention, various electrical plugs were dark which seemed like they had blown a lot of appliances while being plugged in to the sockets. I will never rent from these dishonest folks again.
Most homes in Mammoth do not have "central heating" (a specific TYPE of heat using a forced air furnace which pumps air via in-wall ducting). Crestview (along with about 75% of the available rental properties in Mammoth) was built as an electric only complex, with wood-burning stoves for primary heat. Here in the mountains, we generally rely on burning wood for primary heat as it is very reliable and efficient. This unit provides wall mounted electric heaters in every room, a wood burning stove featuring an electric blower motor, all the firewood you need, and several additional electric oil heaters. Other than this guest, we have no problems with heating complaints.
(*For clarifications sake, this is Jason writing this response, I am the owner of the management company, not the owner of the property, a distinction this guest could not accept. I tried to explain to the guest that part of traveling is understanding the environment you're traveling to- in the mountains heat is survival. Forced air can fail, wood burning stoves do not fail. If you experience a power outage in the middle of a blizzard, your forced air heat will not work, your wood burning stove will.)
When this guest arrived, they connected several heaters on the same circuit causing a short in the breaker box, melted one of the electric heaters and nearly started a fire. We sent our staff electrician out in the evening, and repaired the damage at no charge to the guest. My staff explained the need to spread heaters to avoid overloading a circuit, and tried to help the guests heat the unit. Unfortunately this guest was just as hostile in person as they are in this review, and they stormed out of the unit soon after arrival, complaining that the property should have been advertised as "not having central heat".
*If you need any help in building a proper fire in your Mammoth condo, please let us know. We provide easy fire starters, all the wood you need, and instructions in the unit; but are happy to help in person.
The next day, we conducted an exhaustive heating test in the unit to determine whether there was a real issue. Running all the electric heaters will maintain the (very large) property at 68 degrees (it reaches this temperature in 2-3 hours). When we added a moderate fire (using 2-3 large logs) and engaged the electric blower motor, the unit reached 78-87 degrees (depending on the room) within 2 hours.
To insure your comfort, we now pre-heat this unit a few hours before check-in
