Schöne 120m2 Wohnung mit Terrasse und Garten-Center, aber ruhig

Excellent location close to Les Halles, quiet, sunny, very close to Leader Price supermarket (cheap wine and basics there, but go to Les Halles for better food). Lots of character and a "shabby chic" feel, plenty of owner's joss sticks, CDs, laid back ambience. A little dusty when we arrived, nothing to wash with and very little toilet paper. Two bedrooms, but only sheets provided for one room, and left loose, not made up. Plenty of crockery and glasses and some pots and pans, but rather mixed - seemed to be owners 2nd hand mix rather than planned for visitors. Had to buy a cafetiere. No hair dryer. Main living room (as illustrated on their site) faces the street and is very sunny and spacious. Bedrooms quiet, at the back. Beds a bit thin and old compared with a hotel. Beware mosquitoes, which are numerous and bite hard, regular spraying sorts them out but still expect a few bites.Some brochures were provided about places to visit outside Narbonne, but none on Narbonne itself (I went to tourist information and added maps for future visitors). The "garden" is really just for parking a car, if you have one, I don't recommend a BBQ in the garden as this area is regularly used by cats. Needs some redecorating and cracks in walls to be filled, to bring it up to standard. However, we felt very peaceful there and enjoyed the two weeks. We met the lady owner and her husband. He was very kind and offered us a lift to the station on departure because no taxis were available. Greatly appreciated, lovely man! However, she was very different, and seemed resentful that visitors were living in her personal house. Apparently she lives there in winter, but not summer. The moment we arrived, she said "thank god" were were nearly the last visitor of the season, and then on our departure, immediately complained that she would have to do some cleaning - without inspecting anything already done by us to make it better than on arrival. My wife felt very hurt by this and decided that, although we had greatly enjoyed the two weeks, the bitter exchange of conversation and resentment spoilt everything. The property has loads of chic appeal, and plenty of potential for a wonderful relaxed visit, but the owner could learn more about the basics of hospitality and standards of commercial letting. It would deserve five stars if the owner could put aside her impression of resenting visitors, and make them welcome instead. Sorry!

We really enjoyed our stay in Narbonne in Laure´s appartment. It is nicely decorated and offers all amenities you expect from your own home. Parking in the sometimes narrow french streets is not a problem at all since the car can be parked on the plot. A five minute walk brings you to the historical center of Narbonne. Laure is very friendly and helpful and solved our misunderstanding concerning linnen and towels in seconds.
