My family and I stayed for 8 days and 7 nights. The location is beautiful. The little town your next to is the perfect vacation town as well...low key and relaxing. The house was stocked full of anything and everything we needed. The dock was a perfect fit for both my catamaran and canoe, with Little Sodus Bay being the perfect area to sail.
My husband and I spent our Christmas vacation at this cottage. Some of our family lives nearby in Oswego and we were able to bake cookies and prepare lots of holiday food in this well-equipped kitchen. We could also entertain in the open diningroom and livingroom. Cottage is spacious and neat, with dual thermostats so you can keep bedrooms cool and living area warm. The view of the bay and Christmas snow included seven swans aswimming and six geese alaying, quite amazing. If we were spending another Christmas up north, I would be happy to return to this cottage, we were very comfortable.
Our family had the best vacation at this house. We enjoyed fishing from the dock, fires at night, boat rides to the beach, grilling on the deck....and the house was clean and equipped with everything we needed. our dogs were able to come and enjoy our vacation. The house and rooms were clean and spacious and had plenty of room for little children to play. We will be back. This house and Fair Haven is a best kept secret. Thank you for everything. It was perfect!!!!
Our family, 4 adults, 2 children and 2 small dogs, stayed in mid August and I agree with previous reviewers that the house is incredibly well stocked! The caretaker lives across the street and was very welcoming and invited us to call or see her if there were any problems. The owner's brother also came by to mow the lawn and was very interested to make sure everything was OK. We had my mom with us who is in her 80's and she had no problems navigating the house. We had fires in the fire pit when weather permitted and closely monitored the 3 swans who hung out on the lake in front of us for our entire stay. The house permits a great view of thunder and lightning storms if you are lucky enough to have them during your stay. Our only disappointment was that swimming is not permitted in front of the house. Fair Haven State Park is very close and we were able to swim there but it is not the same as being able to swim in your own front yard.
We enjoyed our week long stay at the house. We had six adults and a baby and had more than enough room. Large open deck for grilling and hanging out, fire pit, boat dock -- we used it all and enjoyed it completely. Had a little problem with the power which was taken care of on a Sunday so that we had no inconveniences at all. That was remarkable! Thanks for anticipating and providing for all our family needs. House was very well stocked. The frozen beer mugs were such a hit I had to purchase some when we got back and now keep them in our freezer.
Our first impression was that the cottage was smaller than in picture. The reason might be that the roof of the cottage in picture is connected to the road behind, which is in the same color, making it look like a bigger roof for a bigger house. But it's actually quite big inside. There is more than enough space for 2 families that went together. There are a lot of activities in town for everyone. We rented 2 kayaks one day from the boat rental place 2 doors down ($25 each for half a day). It was very very nice that we could take turn kayaking and sitting on the deck enjoying the full view of the bay, chatting, sun bathing, watching the sails go by... We rented a boat another day ($150 for half a day) and went all the way to the lake. The husbands went golfing a lot. What I enjoyed the most was the fire pit. We made fire everyday. The kids loved it! The owner has plenty of fire wood in stock - I really appreciate that!
My husband wished there were internet connection in the house. I'm not sure I want that. I think it's perfect to have the guys and kids off the computer for one whole week!
