Cozy and Perfect!
I had stayed for a few days, to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
Also didn't really venture out, so I don't have reviews regarding the surrounding area.
Overall, it's a really nice getaway, and I had really relished the space!
--Immaculately clean! The kitchen has all the utensils you need to prep your food.
--The space above the bedrooms is perfect way to lazily lounge around all day. I spent a lot of time reading and meditating there.
--Heating was easily accessible. It was chilly for a night or two.
--Great WiFi service, since I wasn't able to get cell phone service at all (another plus in my book!).
--Beds/linens were so soft! Loved them!
Cons (but not deal breakers):
--The cottages are not far off from the really very NY-28W road, so you'll always hear cars/trucks passing by. Not the most quiet place to meditate during the daytime, but if you have headphones on hand, it's manageable. At one point the landscapers stopped by to cut the grass, and that was unfortunately disruptive.
--No curtains on the front door, despite the screen door. Maybe I'm just not used to naked doorways/windows.
I would definitely book the space again, but most likely for other intents and purposes such as hiking and exploring.
Glamping in the Catskills
The pictures you see are accurate! The adorable cottages at Rockcut Ledge in Mt Tremper are white-washed and clean, the beds so comfortable with plenty of pillows and soft down comforters. Cottage 3, where I stayed with my 2 young-adult daughters and a niece who came by for 2 of our 4 nights, has 2 bedrooms and a loft, as depicted. We brought a blow-up mattress and the 3 girls spent time up in the loft during what seemed like a 36-hour hurricane, playing games and enjoying the wilderness experience with NO CELL SERVICE! (There is WiFi, never fear.) This provided us a chance to reconnect before the school year begins. The décor of the cabins is 60% Ikea, which gives Euro-chic solidness without detracting from the rustic charm of the locale. We loved it, when compared with ancient smelly sofas at other cabins we have rented, and rusty appliances. The bathroom is new and immaculate.
We were able to have a camp fire in the backyard fire ring (each cottage has one) one night only because of the weather. Plenty of places up and down Rt 28 offer $5 firewood bundles. Boiceville's IGA kept us supplied in gourmet cheeses and fresh produce. The local farm markets provided farm-fresh eggs, local vegetables and fruits.
Don't bring the microwave popcorn - there is no microwave, but bring the jiffy pop, to prepare on the campfire. The cabin provides a French Press coffee pot, so spend a minute to understand how they work before use (i.e., don't put the pot directly on the heating element, Philistine!).
We enjoyed hiking the Kaaterskill Falls (bring good boots & rest-up for the steep hike up and down to the lower viewing platform - 180+ slippery steps,) and experiencing the many hidden natural treasures of the Catskills, not least of which is the Devil's Path and Devil's Tombstone. We were not able to enjoy the cottages' swimming hole because the Esopus Creek was a raging and muddy mess our entire visit. If you are able to time your trip in a less rainy season you will enjoy it, I am sure, because it is ubiquitous!
Thank you, Jeremy, for recommending some terrific local fare, including the Phoenicia Diner (unlike any diner experience we've ever had - gourmet breakfast choices), the Woodnotes Grill (pretty creek-side dining and delicious cocktails), Bread Alone bakery and the artisanal ice cream at Nancy's of Woodstock. (We had dinner at The Pines, but our group's reviews are mixed.)
Great location with beautiful cabin
The cabin was perfect for us. The swimming hole was a short walk away. The cabin updates are beautiful!
