Good value for the area!
Comfortable, quiet, safe accommodations in a tiny village not too far from attractions. Host was friendly and helpful. Would recommend it to others.
Thank you both for the review. It was a pleasure to host you and glad you enjoyed your stay at my home. You are welcome to come back any time!
Historic, charming home
We greatly enjoyed the quaint charm of this lovely home. It was very comfortable and well equipped. The location, although a bit out of the way, was delightfully peaceful.
Friendly host, lovely village, love the private access to the room. Coffee, tea, yogurt, granola bars, fruit were really nice touches. Thanks a lot!
Congenial and gracious guest who treated my home with care and respect. Would be welcome back any time!
Not perfectly kept up; on the market
The room was adequate for the price and the owner was a pleasant man. No air-conditioning. Broken glass in the patio area. Very small dark space. Upkeep of the outside less than average. Sheets and towels clean. Trundle bed a bother. Low water pressure. Just a little off the mark.
It's most unfortunate that this guest's review overwhelmingly contradicts every other review this property has received here and on another preeminent booking site which, overall, has been rated 5 stars since its' listing over a year ago with a three-time, consecutive achievement of Super Host status. Important FACTS for fellow hosts/owners to know about these guests include: 1) an inappropriate if not downright illegal solicitation for the sale and purchase of alcoholic beverages from the owner that was politely but most emphatically refused. Rather, as a courtesy, owner gave a bottle of wine to guests, gratis; 2) a brazen violation of house "no smoking" rules that included crushed cigarette butts littered in and on the patio area, pathway and in the kitchenette waste can that left behind the stench of cigarette smoke in the guest suite. Guests also placed broken pieces of glass on the patio table claiming they were found on a mixed pea and crushed stone patio bed; 3) guests left behind a half eaten deli meat sandwich, replete with teeth/bite marks, in the refrigerator--an obvious food safety risk.
It is to be further noted that at no time during their 3 night stay were any complaints of any kind made by the guests. The comment about broken glass shards was mentioned for the first time as the guests were checking out. This was construed as a thinly veiled attempt to secure a partial refund. Owner politely received this comment in spite of its' contrived nature. References to a trundle bed and no AC are facts fully disclosed in the listing and factored into pricing. Guests were fully aware of both at time of booking and the suggestion that these facts were somehow concealed is beyond the pale. Guests were afforded the same level of care and attention that, as noted above, has consistently earned owner an overall 5 star rating and Super Host status 3 consecutive times in the span of just one year on another popular booking site. I choose not to dignify the review further except to say that its' contents are false and grossly misleading-- motivated by a retaliatory mentality and offensive, personal biases that have no place on this or any other booking site. While guests are free to have their opinions, they are not free to adopt and publish an "alternate" set of facts that rise to the level of defamatory remarks in pursuit of a hidden agenda. This response was first privately sent to the guests with an opportunity for rebuttal. None was received.
Comfortable stay in a beautiful home
My husband and I spent a long weekend in the guest suite of this beautiful old home. The suite was comfortable, well stocked with books, and had its own bathroom and entrance (two actually), which made it convenient and private. It was nice having use of the kitchenette too (though a larger refrigerator would have been useful for storing restaurant leftovers!) The bed, located in the main room, is a trundle. Sam was welcoming and accommodated our needs with kindness. We knew he was there to give recommendations or answer questions, yet our stay felt totally private. New Marlborough is a little out of the way but a lovely town. There is a general store right next store that makes deli sandwiches (and they give good directions). Umpachene Falls is nearby and beautiful - worth a visit! Great Barrington and Stockbridge are also not far. I'd recommend Sam's place for a southern Berkshire stay.
Karen and her husband were gracious guests who treated my home with care and respect. The weather was a bit rainy when they arrived but it improved steadily through the remainder of their stay. I'm glad they got to experience and enjoy the beauty and some of the cultural offerings of the Berkshires. They would be welcome guests anytime.
