A lovely cosy little cabin - very private, with everything you might need. What really makes this different though is your hosts, Robin and Michael, who are just wonderful - of such generous spirit that you feel welcome and looked after without ever being intruded upon. Highly recommended
I'm a believer that actions speak louder than words, so I will say just say one thing. Four days after returning from an early June stay at the Pakatakan Mtn. Guest House for the very first time, I booked another, longer stay for the fall. If you think you'll like it based upon the descriptions provided by the owners and in all the detailed reviews, I know you will absolutely love it upon arrival. We definitely did.
Mike and Robin's Pakatakan Guest House was perfect for taking a break from NYC! The house was very clean and well maintained, and all of the wonderful amenities were as advertised. Perfect for getting into the woods without really roughing it :) There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for a long stay, and for most of our short weekend we were quite content just grilling and relaxing on the deck in such a nice setting! GREAT price!!
There is a nice grocery store about 15 min away where we bought some really nice steaks and fish, a convenient store/gas station less than a mile away for snacks, drinks, etc, and a lot antiques and oddities nearby. If you're looking for total seclusion this might not be the cabin for you, however not once during out stay did we feel like we did not have our privacy! Mike was very attentive and responsive in setting up the reservation and answering questions via email, which was great since we booked very last minute, and I received a refund for my security deposit within 24hrs of checking out.
We had a wonderful time, and would absolutely visit again! Great little place, zero complaints!
We are half way through out week here and, I must say, the photos online do not do justice to the real thing. It is immaculate and very modern. We are staying here with our three boys (10,12,14) and are having a grand time biking, fishing, swimming, hiking, canoeing, playing in the yard with all the games and visiting the surrounding towns. The house has everything you would need for a lovely time. Robin and Mike have thought of everything. Just bring your clothes and move in! The new washer and driyer are a great detail with all these boys. The only thing that would have been helpful is a 2nd bathroom but we are making it work. We feel totally at home.
We only brought one car and the house is at the top of a steep hill but my youngest son and I biked into town today while the rest of the family went fishing. We are going to the beach at a nearby lake tomorrow. There is no lack of things to do that do not include spending a lot of money. Even though it has rained a lot, we are still having a great time!
My husband and I looked forward to spending a week with four of our grandchildren exploring the area around Margaretville so we booked the Pakatakan guest house. What a great find!
The kids were thrilled with the fishing equipment, the swing, bunnies and chipmunks, the games, the DVD player and movies; I loved the large well equipped eat-in kitchen, laundry facilities, the deck overlooking the woods and lawn. And my husband loved listening to the birds, having a trail right out back of the house. There's nothing lovelier than listening to a wood thrush in the morning and evening.
The cabin is so comfortable and clean. Robin and Mike pay attention to all the details that make you feel welcome, including providing maps, directions, and suggestions based on your interests.
After returning home the fifteen year old posted on his Facebook page that this was the best vacation ever!
I loved staying here! In fact, I've stayed at this cabin a few times now and each time I'm reminded of how great it is. It's been so nice to get out of the city to relax, and stay in a cabin that feels warm and spacious, surrounded by beautiful wilderness. This place makes all the stress disappear! Mike a Robin are always really nice, and are eager to help with suggestions of thing to do and see in the area. It's a great location, between Arkville and Margretville. You don't need to go far to find hikes, explore the towns, shop at the flea & farmer's markets, and on a hot day great swimming holes. In case you can't tell, I highly recommend this place.
