This is our 2nd visit to this idyllic spot in Barbados. As we found last year, the accommodation is everything as described.If you are thinking about visiting Barbados, we guarantee you will not be disappointed with this accommodation. Added to this, the charming hosts, make you feel very welcome, as do the people of Barbados, wherever you go. You are minutes from all amenities, but at the same time in a peaceful location. We travelled all over on the local transport, which is excellent value and good fun! Fabulous beaches and crystal waters, what more could you want. As you can tell, this holiday rental comes highly recommended!

Newstead Cottage is the most perfect holiday rental in Barbados. We were greeted by Claire who proudly showed us around the cottage then offered suggestions of places to visit, restaurants to try and the local grocery shops. The cottage had everything we needed for our two week holiday. Exceptionally clean, very comfortable queen size bed, air conditioning if you need it (but we used the ceiling fan) wi-fi that let us gleefully send photos and emails back to family; and just a short walk to Accra Beach, one of the island's top beaches. Shakers, just around the corner, for the best char-grilled ribs; minutes away is Just Grillin' for flying fish; The Ackee Tree for the roti, and the Tiki Bar for fabulous rum punches and burgers. We had breakfast on the terrace every morning and were delighted to watch the hummingbirds come to the flowers that grew in the cottage's front yard. We hired a car for three days to tour the island, we rode in the amazing ZR vans that help out with the public buses. Anywhere for 2 BD dollars. Being a photographer, I loved the fact I could go about with my equipment and feel very safe. The people were so helpful and it made our time there an unforgettable vacation. We visited St-Nicholas Abbey, Harrison's Cave, collected sea glass at Martin's Bay on the east coast, stopped at little communities across the island, shopped at the local grocery store that offers free shuttle service back to the cottage (as we cooked up culinary delights in the fully equipped kitchen) and thoroughly enjoyed the Oistin's Fish Fry. We walked along many beaches and found amazing rock formations (the birth of the island) along Barclay's Park on the east coast. To see the hills created by the Caribbean and Atlantic plates was humbling to my long ago studies in geology. We simply immersed ourselves in the Bajan culture. We will definitely return to Barbados for future holidays and take up residence again at Newstead Cottage.

My wife and I arrived at Newstead in the evening and were welcomed by Claire our Housekeeper.Claire made it feel like home and gave us lots of useful information about the Cottage and the local area,shops,restaurants, beaches etc.
The Cottage was very clean and comfortable and we felt relaxed straight away.The facilities were everything you need and I had even taken my laptop to send photos home and make all our friends jealous!.
Once we had familiarised ourseves with the area we settled into a routine of one day on the beach the next day exploring the Island.The nearest beach 'Accra' is superb and only five minutes walk from the Cottage.We ony used the local tansport (bus) for getting around the Island.The buses are not only good fun and give you a chance to mix with the locals but they are cheap at two Bajan dollars for any journey is great!.All buses pass down the main road just a short walk from the Cottage.
Because the Cottage has an excellent kitchen we 'ate in' some nights.This not only helps with the budget but also provides a very relaxed evening especially after a tiring day touring Barbados.We tried several restaurants all within walking distance and all were recommended by either Claire or a friend who stays in Rockley often.We were very impessed with all the restaurants which varied in price.The nearest, Shakers, is excellent, very reasonably priced and just two minutes walk.Others we tried were Neru, Tappas and if you want to finish the holiday in style Champers is a little more expensive but a great location on the seafront.
We really enjoyed the holiday and plan to return next year.I would not hesitate to recommend Newstead Cottage to anyone planning to visit Barbados.We also found Susan the owner very helpful when booking and she has since been in touch with an update of any improvements being carried out at the Cottage.

This was the first time that we had stayed at Newstead Cottage but our 4th time in Barbados. For location, comfort etc I can say that this is the place to be. Nothing was too much trouble for Claire, the cottage is exactly as advertised. If we can get booked again then we will definitely be back here.

My husband and I stayed for 6 glorious weeks at the Newstead Cottage. Susan was so easy to deal with and always answered our many questions quickly, usually the same day. The location is great, just a few minutes from Accra Beach and the Quayside Mall to the left and Lanterns Mall to the right. There is a scotia bank at the bottom of the street as well as a taxi stand across from the Quayside Mall. You can also get one of the many buses that come frequently to take you anywhere on the island for 2BD dollars at the bottom of the street.

The cottage was clean and comfortable with a good size kitchen. The bedroom is roomy and it has a nice bathroom with shower only. There is a safe where you can keep your passports etc. There is air conditioning in the bedroom which you can use at night if needed. During the day we enjoyed the breeze blowing through the cottage so you can hear the sounds of Barbados.
At night the tree frogs are really noisy but you soon get used to them.

We walked the boardwalk every day which starts right at the bottom of the street right beside the Magic Isle Hotel.

When you exit the cottage and turn left there is a place to get eggs and chicken and if you turn left there you will see Shakers a great little restaurant with very good food. It is busy with locals and visitors. It is best to make reservations and they only take cash.

We enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds. Claire the housekeeper came twice a week to change sheets and do a general cleaning. We enjoyed her visits and chats with her and she takes good care of you. There are many books for reading and it was nice to keep in touch with our family with the wireless internet. If you need something just ask and she will try and get it for you.

We also rented a car for a week and visited many beaches and places on the island. We felt very safe in Barbados and the locals were friendly. For the other 5 weeks we walked everywhere and occasionally took the bus. We walked to The Garrison and watched the horse races. We also walked to St Lawrence Gap a few times and Carlisle Bay and even Bridgetown. We never felt unsafe during the day or eve.

You are about about 10-15 min walk to the Super B supermarket where they will give you a free shuttle back to your condo or cottage.

Overall a wonderful place to stay, close to many beaches, stores, restaurants and we cant wait to come back. We fell in love with Barbados and can't wait to come back.

We have just returned from 6 wonderful weeks in beautiful Barbados (our third visit) and stayed this time at Newstead Cottage. From booking the accommodation to leaving with a bag of lovely cookies, it was a memorable experience with Susan as perfect host and Claire looking after us, changing linen and ever ready for a nice chat on the cool veranda! The Cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable.
In January there was an unusual number of heavy rain showers, which did not spoil our holiday enjoyment, but probably resulted in an abnormal number of mosquitos for which we took some proactive precautions! For such a long holiday, it is not practical (or desirable!) to eat out for every meal, so we enjoyed some simple self catering for which facilities were good and the veranda was ideal for us - and two hungry sparrows.
We found the internet wifi facility very useful for contact with family and friends via our laptop with Skype and Facebook and keeping up to date with BBC news and sport. The safe was large enough for its security.

We love the Rockley area - the beach and the Kan'ei bar, where beds/umbrella cost BDS $30, which is then redeemable for drinks, including happy hour pinacoladas with wonderful sunsets! We walked the great boardwalk virtually every day, sometimes several times, the shops and restaurants at Quayside are good and our favourite eating places are Tapas (boardwalk), Carib (just before the Gap) and Shakers (just a few yards up the hill from the Cottage (book in advance!), but there are many and varied eating possibilities within easy walking distance. For those with a taste for more spicey dishes, there are also plenty of options.

As always, buses and "squashy" cabs are both cheap (now BDS $2 per journey to anywhere on the island!). We like elegant Bridgetown and its boardwalk along the harbour side, we visited Speightstown (nice art gallery and wonderful flower festival in the local church), Holetown (for the annual festival - nice bands), Bathsheba on the East coast and nearby Andromeda Gardens and took the submarine excursion this time and Catameran last year - very interesting excursions. For all six Sundays we attended St. Matthias Church in Hastings for the 8.45am service, where we were made very welcome, with organ playing and singing being particularly impressive and the ministry team providing very interesting and stimulating services.

Excellent location for getting around the island even if you do not hire a car, just walk out of the door down the road and you are sitting on Acrra, What else could you want for.

We stayed at Newstead Cottage for three weeks from July into August, and had the most fantastic holiday on our first visit to Barbados. The cottage is in a perfect location for the beautiful Accra beach which is just a couple of minutes walk away, for local amenities, and buses across the island. There are plenty of local restaurants and bars, as well as a bank at the end of the road. The best food we had (for portions and price) was at Oistins, where they fry and grill fish outside every evening- especially on Fridays when it's accompanied by one big party!

The cottage itself it is clean, well maintained and has everything you need, from a fully kitted out kitchen, to cable tv and local guides and info. The extras such as beach towels, mosquito repellant and cool bag for the beach were welcome additions.

Sleeping wasn't a problem with the A/C in the bedroom, and breakfast on the verandah in the private tropical garden was a delight, with the assorted pets and local wildlife paying us regular visits! I can only repeat what the other guests have already said- it's a perfect place to stay in every respect, and we will certainly be coming back to Barbados and Newstead Cottage in the near future. We fell in love with the island, the friendly people, the music, the food.... and rum punches!

Susan and Paul were the perfect hosts, and along with Clare the housekeeper made us feel extremely welcome. They were on hand to give us any info we needed, and booked trips and taxis for us, which made things so much easier and less stressful.

It was wonderful to be there during the Crop Over celebrations, and we were bogling along with the locals on Grand Kadooment day! Soca music is the way forward! A few rainy days didn't spoil our fun as they gave us the opportunity to tear ourselves away from the amazing beaches and see some of the island's other attractions such as Harrison's Cave.

We can't recommend Newstead Cottage highly enough. It is a rare thing to find such a perfect place to stay with unique personal touches and friendliness at such great value.
