Great Holiday - Great Location

Our first time in Florence and had no idea what to expect or where we were to be based as maps just don’t tell the true story. The property is rustic and to us that was the charm, who wants to stay in one room in a hotel. We found the property clean and spacious with a large bathroom. The bed is really comfortable. The kitchen is very small but has all the amenities necessary but truth is the restaurants and food in Florence are so good we didn’t eat in once.
We were greeted by the owner who was very welcoming and were shown around the studio and gardens – the gardens are lovely and the pool ‘refreshing’ – ok once you’re in! A member of her staff was always available and they were extremely helpful without being intrusive. The owner came and wished us a safe journey home and arranged for a taxi which was a nice touch. Gato and Otto the dogs, however, had no manners and came to say hello whenever they felt like it, we love dogs and welcomed the company but don’t worry they go home when told to!
I don’t know how slow Linda walks but it must be really really slow (see other review). Even my wife, who’s had a knee replacement, was able to get to the Boboli Gardens within ten minutes, Pitti Palace (and if that’s not a major attraction I don’t know what is) is 15 Minutes away, the Ponte Vecchio Bridge is 20 Minute walk. Cross the bridge and you have the whole of Florence before you, the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Croce and so much more. O.K. you need to add 5 minutes extra for your walk back as it is up hill but the 37 bus (and 68 night bus) sorts out that problem and you can get tickets at Tobacconists etc. We walked to the Railway Station on a number of occasions and got a bus to Sienna and a train to Viareggio and Lucca. Explore have a bit of fun it’s Italy not outer Mongolia.
The Studio is in the Oltrarno Quarter of Florence and I suggest you eat here and don’t cross the river. The restaurants on this side are fantastic and 20 minute walk away at the most. Finding your own is fun but we can recommend Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco (the white boar) Trattoria Angiolino, the Golden View Restaurant, overlooking the Ponte Vecchio expensive but very good and Garbo’s– must stop could go on forever.
Would we recommend the studio, absolutely, great location (we are in our early 50’s and getting to everywhere we wanted was easy) in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle so great for when you get back from site-seeing. And Florence - what a city.
